Default 26th District

Is the 26th District talkgroup encrypted?

I'm on townwatch in this district but often when SHTF I have to resort to walking up to a scene and asking busy officers what is going on or getting 2nd had information from neighbors who have done the same. Some times they just do not have the time or the patience to repeat details over and over to neighbors, so I'd rather hear it off the scanner. In a neighboring area one of the radio dispatchers will pop open facebook to warn their townwatch groups of a large job... "i.e. air assist was called in to light up some backyards and sometimes we peg radio dispatchers that we know personally to get info. Rumor mills in my neighborhood are fierce and misinformation spreads ridiculously fast, so being able to kill the rumors with facts and also know where the trouble spots are is very important.

We don't want to shift to a patrol townwatch (we do get radios if we switch with a talkgroup that's shared with district dispatch) mostly because finding dedicated trustworthy volunteers that can be relied to go out in pairs in vehicles on busy nights like Thu/Fri/Sat is quite difficult, and we're not at that point where we need to do patrol.

I'm seeing on the thread that a PSR800 is the way to go to pick up the new system... has anybody been able to pick up the 24th, 25th and 26th on it?

Arctic,

None of the district talkgroups are encrypted. If you purchase a PSR-800 and program the new system into it, you will be able to hear the 24th, 25th, and 26th districts just fine.

It sounds like they are testing every single radio on the fire bands on the old system. They are even checking reserve units.

Default Progress Update

Progress continues on our city radio upgrades. All of our XTS 2500/3000 portables have been reprogrammed and now contain the old and new systems.

Yesterday, all of our Astro Spectra W5 mobile radios were replaced with snazzy new XTL5000 mobiles. I assume the Spectras are not capable of handling the new system.

Exclamation UPDATE: Cutover scheduled for Thursday 1/10 0600

I have received word that cutover to the new system (at least on the fire/municipal side) will be occurring at 0600 hrs this Thursday morning (Jan 10th). Both systems will apparently be running concurrently for at least an hour (0600-0700). From what we were told, should a major incident be in progress at that time, the switchover will be delayed.

Yeah, sounds like at least at the moment that everyone on the municipal side BUT the Fire Department has switched or is in the process of switching. I'm getting a lot of activity on Airport, Municipal, and PGW channels. Also City Events 1 channel. I guess I'll know when Fire switches because my Pro-96 will go silent lol

7:25 am, I am hearing some radio testing, a lot of "schools" checking in on a wildcard.

*ID(s) so far 613, 809, 807, 805

ID 707 was inverted (scrambled)

Frequencies are

853.0625
852.0875 (which appears to be "C" band)
851.3625
851.8375 (C1??)

I haven't heard any regular police calls yet on the new system, they are still broadcasting on the old system.

I did not load the entire new system onto my scanner, only what RR had listed as police, as seen in the screen shot below. I have only heard schools checking in, no police yet.

Byker, im not sure what you mean when you talk about the frequencies. For all intents and purposes, the system frequencies dont mean anything to people scanning the system. If you program in the control channel(s) and set it to control channel trunking, the scanner takes care of the rest. Those frequencies you list are just the voice channels the system happens to pick for the conversation. As for TG 613, i am pretty sure that is a PSD channel (dont have the list in front of me). Those higher than say 400 are ones i havent been able nail down.

As dasflies stated, todays switchover is supposed to be fire and munucipal side only. The police side is going to be another time, so you arent going to hear any police calls yet.

I just listed the frequencies I saw on the radio ID, I let WIN500 program for me I don't understand enough about trunking to do it manually, I didn't know if it meant anything which freqs were showing. I mistook what dasflies said when he said municipal, I was thinking PD.

As for 613, I did see a few other ID's come up but they all seemed to be tied into the school district.

Oh well, never mind.

I have a question for you Dan, the 613 I am hearing, if I "lock out" that, will it affect all wildcard transmissions or just 613?

Seems like all municipal agencies switched over this morning. Makes sense that they would use the more 'non-essential' city agencies as guinea pigs to test things out before they try to switch the whole fire department, or police.

Was able to confirm most airport talkgroups and I submitted those to be included in the database. Some other random ones such as:

319 - Public Property Dispatch
473 - Some kind of all call ?
323 - City Event 1
613 - Philly School Dist. PD and/or security

473 should be 1st Judicial District Dispatch.
613 is PSD Admin.

I agree about switching non-essential services first. Gives them a chance to use or abuse the system, and if it crashes, nobody is in any real danger (ie being shot at or trapped in a flashover).
