Question Why is Lower Merion silent?

I've not heard any activity on their trunked EDACS System for a day or two. Not even the normally active Public Works communication. Is their system down or have they rebanded very, very recently?

I was told on Monday that they were narrowbanding their system. All township ops, including public works, was using a conventional repeater during the switchover.

Red face

Thanks for the info JJ.
Does their narrowbanding switchover mean I won't be able to hear them on my Pro-107 when they return?
Or will I have to reprogram the scanner?
(I'm an obvious noob)

I believe they are on 460.275 conventional.

The control channel is showing that the system is in Failsoft. Not surprising.

PL on the 460.275 repeater is 131.8. Do they ever use this any other time? I've never checked for a conventional channel for LMPD before.

Lower Merion Township Police are changing their radio system over to a Motorola Narrow Band radio system on January 1, 2013. They will no longer be using the Ericsson radio system.

Don’t know if this would be a trunked encrypted radio system or what the radio frequencies will be.

Currently Unitrunker is showing an EDACS48 CC in site trunking (Island) mode.

From a senior officer at LMPD, no one in the department has any idea of this. All vehicles have not received any new radios and no new portables have been distributed.

Have been wondering about LM too, although I don't turn them on very often.

So to listen to them right now 460.275 conventional is what I need to program in?

At 2:45pm today Lower Merion PD switched back to their EDACS system in narrow mode. A simple change of your trunk settings to EDACS NARROW should be all you need to do.

Default Programming LMPD Narrowband Frequencies on Pro-163

Question: Are the LMPD EDAC frequencies exactly the same as before narrowbanding, or did they shift up or down slightly? For example, did the #1 primary 460.27500 become 460.2755?

I am operating a new RS Pro-163 that I believe can handle the narrowband frequencies, but there is no broad mode for narrowbanding the EDAC channels that are programmed.

Appreciate any information or suggestions.

Narrowbanding should not change the frequency. If you have a setting for that it is all you need to change. If not, it should just sound like someone turned the volume down.

Default still silent for me ...

I had entered the conventional frequency when they first went silent and was able to hear them again, after having the trunked system programmed and they went silent. Hearing they were back up and running their trunked system I re-downloaded from RR as it seems some of the tags were changed. Last night and so far today, I am not hearing LM on either the conventional or the narrowbanded trunked system, does anyone else actually hear LM?

Before the switch I had no problem.

Default Narrow Band Trunk Mode

I too am unable to receive LMPD transmissions since they switched to narrow band EDAC yesterday. I am starting to believe that the RS Pro-163 is just unable to track the narrow band EDAC system, even with its Zeromatic function, since it does not have a specific narrow band trunk-tracking mode. May have to purchase a Uniden BC346XT, which has this specific narrow band mode. Seems like a pretty big functionally omission on the RS scanner given the nationwide narrow band switchover.

i am hearing LM through the channel here, not my own scanner, sorry.

a related question, are they back on the county band or are they still being dispatched from the station? i am listening now and it's hard to tell, some cars are using a "34-XX" call sign and some are not. also lots of funny beeping and background noise.

I'm picking up the control channel noise on 460.350 but my analog scanners are not able to decode it. So far no voice transmissions on the other 3 frequencies (I have my one scanner parked on 460.275 LCN 1 to see if anything comes across). My Pro 106 was able to decode CC data on 460.350 but I don't have the system programmed on it. Looks like it may be the only scanner I have capable of picking up EDACS Narrow Systems.

I finally heard a couple of calls but no where near as clear as they were before the double switch.
