Default MontCo upgrades

So what is it exactly that the county is doing.

Are they only rebanding , are they only upgrading PD and EMS to P25 phase 1 or is everything going to phase 2 ....

No one seems to know an answer , and at the quoted 7k per radio , it's a little bit of a concern if all of our FD radios have to be switched over like some of the rumors that are floating around .

From what I have seen so far in changes to the FCC licenses, things for now look like a rebanding. Keep in mind that any major changes to the system in the future are still in their infancy. We only just finally got all fire on one voice dispatch channel to match all ems being on one channel, that alone was a million years overdue. Just like with the major changes currently going on with all of the surrounding counties, It'll be a wait and see and listen game. There's one thing I do know for sure and that is that we have a great county commissioner staff and a thoroughly put together committee that was formed to give positive feedback from the people who will use the system the most and that is the field users. Both the committee's hard work and the commissioners patience and attempted better understanding of all aspects of radio systems and usage in general make me as a field user within the county not only excited but confident that any changes not only take us to where we need to be at the next level, but leave us room to also move forward into the future.

I'd hate to see them go overboard. 4 mobiles , and 10 plus handhelds would be next to near impossible to be able to pay for.

Hopefully the tower additions will help us out in the west side since local comms aren't worth anything over a 1/4 mile on simplex and when on the region talk groups, it tends to be allot of data not being able to be decoded due to terrain and or a bad shadow for the ringing hill tower location.

I'll have to double check, but I thought the system was going phase 2. TDMA talkgroups for police/ems. Fire will stay phase 1 FDMA talkgroups. In the western end of the county, VHF is making a comeback for the fire companies...Skippack, Limerick, Perkiomen, Collegeville, Schwenksville, Upper Providence all seem to be making more investments in VHF for alternate comms.

Ben,
Did you ever find out if it was phase 2 or not? just curious....hope that at least at first it is a monitorable phase 2 if one exists. Now that I feel mastered between alanog and digital the technology is leaving me out of the loop again with phase 1 vs phase 2 vs td/fdma, etc

Nothing is for sure until the project moves forward, I suppose. But, yes, the plan is for police/ems to be TDMA P25 Phase 2 talkgroups while fire is FDMA.

Default MontCo upgrades

I spoke to a county tech on Friday relating to another issue. But did pose the question and was told fire only need to have the radios flashed for the reband and that's all.

There will be another check in this evening. You can grab more ID's then. This is a monthly check in net for emergency management.

I caught some of the evening check in as well. Is this on a schedule of "1st Monday of every month"?

Yes. Two check in times. 1400-1430 and 1900-1930. Same time each month.

I have been monitoring Upper Dublin PD on ID 2320 for the last 15 years at least. That ID went silent today, later found the department on 4112. They were always self-dispatched, now seem to be dispatched by county. Any insights would be appreciated.

To follow up on my last post...per township website...
•As of 2/5/2013 10:15a, Upper Dublin Police (911) are being dispatched by Montgomery County. The UD Police Station is still open 24/7.

I believe the counties goal now and moving forward with the new radio system is to eventually have all police countywide dispatched by the county.
