The state police don't use the OpenSky (digital) in Luzerne County yet. Maybe in the future but no current scanner will pick up OpenSky anyway. Depending on where you live and how good your antenna is you may pick up a lot of activity. I hear quite a bit of action on the following PA State Police channels:

155.5050 PSP Wyoming
155.6700 PSP Hazleton
155.5800 PSP Dunmore
155.8500 PSP Channel C
154.0250 PSP
155.4400 PSP
155.4600 PSP Tactical 1

Also check out
159.0450 PA Turnpike with some PSP activity

I just bought a new Uniden BR330T and I'm not real familiar with the Radio Shack stuff. I can say from what I hear (and I'm no expert) there is no digital or trunking systems in use in our area with few plans for the near future to have any. I believe the state agencies (PenDot PA State Police...) are moving toward a digital encrypted system called open sky. Currently NO scanner can scan OpenSky. My scanner does trunking which I may use when I am on vacation or visiting family in trunking areas. My scanner does NOT have digital. My reasoning was that it would cost twice as much for digital and I would not use it now. Also when/if digital does find its way into our area I will probably need/want the latest scanner when it does arrive.

For me the ability to organize my freqencies, label them, have priority and close call features and a small unit were the must-haves. Beyond that the rest of the stuff I am still learning. I have mine setup so I can turn off Scranton if it gets noisy, or turn on searches and turn on frequencies I am researching. I still have the ability to turn off everything non-local if there is something good going on near my house.

I bought my 1st scanner in Nov and replaced it with a better one a week or so ago. Once I learned a lot about it and once I got a good antenna I outgrew the 50-channel limit of my old scanner quickly. I also had no alpha tags on my old scanner so it was terrible looking up frequencies every time it stopped on one. I love the BR330T and other than saying that digital channels in our area do not exist I can't help much with your choice since I don't know the Radio SHack models well.

HI DER and the Bureau of Forestry have 2 relays in your vicinity, having a output on 151.175MHz with tone code 5A (157.3 I think) . The car to car channel is also 151.175 MHz and 151.445 MHz.
Good luck with your scanner! DICK, retired DER radio engineer.

Hi...I have a Radio Shack 20-176, in the attic for now but plans for getting it outside are in progress. As far as hearing one side o fthe conversation...they may be talking back and forth on different frequencies and you only have one programmed OR more likely one of the talkers is out of range for you but not out of range for who they are talking to.
