Odd side note...anyone ever manually program their PSR-600? Why am I only able to enter 32 manual frequencies on a system?
When I manually program my 106, it only allows 32 frequencies. That is not enough for me to have just one talk system for the entire county.

Mike,

Are you picking up anything on the new Dauphin system lately? I am getting a great signal on the tower but hearing no Comms on any of the fire patches.

I was in Lancaster a couple of weeks ago setting the system up for my brother. No traffic. Set a bank to all conventional channels to see if I messed up the programming somehow. Still, no traffic and 4 hours of solid monitoring.

I don't think there are any current patches or users as of 2 weeks ago.

Verified yesterday with a friend from DEMA: all patches have been terminated. They are in acceptance testing. Equipment is being distributed this month. I will keep the system open to listen for testing. The only activity I picked up yesterday was an encrypted TG.

Great. Maybe my 106 will be put to use in the next month or two!

Perhaps that will also give me a little time to pick up a few more PSR-600/Pro-197 before they go live...need at least 2 more...LOL

Out here in Harrisburg this weekend for the PAHMT conference...no traffic on the Dauphin trunked system in the limited times I've been able to monitor.

Ok. I saw West Hanover Fire Company and EVERY single fire fighter had alpha-numeric pagers. I did not locate one single minitor that night. Anyone hear anything on the Eastern towers?

There was some brief testing I heard yesterday. I picked it up on a 'wildcard' talkgroup. Nothing else lately...still listening...

Lots of activity today...

It sounds like Susquehanna Twp was running a drill on 51025 which could be their Ops TG. There was also a few brief open mic comms on 31001, 11001, 31805.

Before the drill, units were discussing TG assignments on 21803.

I was under the impression that LP was the only municipality joining the county system... since when has SusqPD planned to join also?

Actually it was FD and not PD. As for township PD not participating, I find that hard to believe.

Most departments have been issued their portable radios for the new digital trunking system however none are using them at this time. They are already set up for the digital system. Any testing being done is likely by County personnel or Motorola. As for who will be on the new trunked system. All departments in the County will be on the digital system. Derry, Middletown and Harrisburg will still have their own dispatch but they are using the County system. The complete switch over will not happen until after the County takes over the system from Motorola which is likely going to be just after the new year. There will also probably be a single police department testing it out before they accept it from Motorola and go County-wide.
In regards to the talkgroup you heard... it probably was a FD Ops TG being tested because the PD Ops TG's will all be encrypted as far as I know. That also goes for department's private channels and county channel 3 and 4. County police dispatch 1 and 2 are likely the only police channels that wont be encrypted. Fire and EMS channels will not be encrypted and most portables carried by Fire or EMS crews will either be the XTS 2500 or 1500 unless they are one of the higher ups that gets issued a 5000 in their respective departments.(ie. Chief).

Thanks for the info, but I never doubted what I was listening to.

This was not County personnel or Motorola. It was Susquehanna Twp Fire. They were doing training and included the new radios. I knew it was fire, as it was identifiable fire units and certainly fire related comms going back and forth.

As for the TG used, it was a township TG. I will identify the TGs as soon as I am able so we can start updating the DB.

More activity today...

On TG 11301 I am hearing what seems to be Middletown PD units conversing with Middletown dispatch.

Truck broke down in Harrisburg here for the next day or 2, staying in a hotel near the 283/41 jct
heard a comm just a second ago on the simulcast site TGID 51010 talking about meeting up - on my 396XT it sounded freakin incredible!
on the same TG a chief and another users commenting on how well the system sounds :P

got nothing much to do so i will keep an ear out

Does anybody happen to know anything about the new paging system? I understand that it is alphanumeric around the 470 MHz region. I don't know what pagers they will use. Unfortunately, I don't know much about pagers (just good old FM voice). I know you are able to buy a minitor for 33.8 and insert the appropriate tone reed and be able to use it just like a fire fighter or EMS employee. Does that hold true to the new paging system? I know it would be VERY difficult to do it even if it is possible. I read that they will drop 33.8, so they will no longer be activating the sirens there. I know you can't transmit tones over the new type of modulation. It will be interesting to see how the departments decide to handle siren activation over the next year!

I also had my 106 on the Blue Mountain simulcast, Chambers hill, and Ellendale, but failed to hear anything since early summer. I am just not around when you guys say you hear traffic on it.

Hopefully this system will work out for the county a lot better than York county's did for them, haha.
