Angry So it begins.

FYI

3001 South PD units have gone encrypted, dispatch side remains in the clear. (for now).
the rest will surely follow quickly.

I noticed it also. My TRX 2 had the phone busy signal quite often tonight. A sad day. I was hoping they would leave the dispatch channels open.

Cool Next steps

3002 NW tonight. Dispatch still in the clear, Sheriff's too. Just no more local units to hear.

I sees (seize) a pattern.

3003 NE units Wed
3004 Metro units Thur
3005 City units Fri
Sheriff's, Detectives, Conservation Officers, Constables, maybe Coroners, Probation, Youth Intervention, Prison units.
and then tada the Dispatchers themselves.

What fun!

Wonder what WGAL & LNP will do, I bet they already have radios (compliments of the PD or Commissioners) so you'll hear no belly aching in the press about this.. Hmm.

The reporters complained at first then went quiet. I think they got taken care of. It's the public they want to hide from.

Not hearing much aside from fire/EMS on the NE site.

I did just hear B/M 51 units on Metro.

Any other observations?

Touch 2 started this week. Encryption is being added to the LE user radios, so you may only hear the dispatcher side of the conversation.

It's all but over for police monitoring. In fact I took them out of my systems. Somebody in PA needs to introduce a bill to the PA legislature like they did in Colorado. Until then it's EMS/Fire monitoring. Oh and the Manheim auto auction. LOL

Not all private talk groups are encrypted. Our department for one is not. I believe that was up to the individual department.

Folks who note newly encrypted talkgroups should make database submissions to get the changes made, as needed.

Post Partial E

No LE Dispatch TG can be confirmed as 100% Encryption.
There seems to be a few local LE units that remain in the clear despite 99% being encrypted.
(None of those units are in the south zone)
[Or maybe they have the choice and stay open?]
The Dispatch side remains in the clear. For now..

I too have seen FD Private TG's with encryption in use. only on 1 or 2 though, can't recall which ones they were.. maybe Garden Spot was one.

LE Private TG's have been encrypted since the system went live. No LE units on NW Police TG or Metro Police TG are unencrypted.

Fire/EMS private TG's are up to the individual department. I can't confirm any at this time.

Post Note:

My previous statement that some units were still in clear was based on observations over the past week..
Upon listening today for several hours it would appear that they have indeed got them all encrypted now.
Noticed TG 3030 is really busy although encrypted of course....

Spoke a bit soon..

6142116 Lanc City Unit still clear

If some are still in the clear, the vendor may not be finished with the reprogramming process in all of their radios. I believe they have until a date in mid February to be completed.

I was out in Lancaster County last Friday, March 9th. All 3xxx talkgroups were fully encrypted from what I could see/hear. Very disappointing considering this is one of the better P25 systems in terms of set up and ability to monitor.

I still stand by my earlier opinion that the police chiefs are using officer safety as an excuse and the real reason for this move is to keep the public in the dark and protect the image of the area as a tourist destination.

Has anyone tried submitting an FOI request for police dispatch audio since the encryption went into effect?

They are encrypted from the user transmit side. The 911 center transmit is still unencrypted.
