Default Install on an 06 Taurus

Here's my own install of a Kenwood TMD-700A in my 2006 Ford Taurus using a custom built console to hold the radio in and the car's ashtray to mount the display and speaker. All of the wires and cables were fed underneath the carpet and protected by 3/4" plastic conduit.

Nice clean install Craig. If only I could find the space in my Mazda3. I think I may need to get a remote head also.

Default Tm-d700

I love my Kenwood TM-D700. This is my current configuration, and it will be changed shortly as I'm getting a Motorola Spectra A9 control head (connected to the UHF Spectra in the trunk) which will be placed where the D700's head is now. The D700's head will be moved just above the heat/AC controls.

This is an example of why this forum and RR is so entertaining and useful. You've made a good installation and given me an idea for a location to mount the radio portion of my Yaesu FT-8800. I have a spot picked out for the control head that will be great as the radio is now mounted vertically like the one shown in your second post. I can't mount the radio under the floor of either the driver's or passenger's seats because there are heat vents at the floor level under both. I thought of capping the vents but I live at nearly 8,000 feet and need heat to reach passengers feet when they are riding in my car.

I had not thought of using that portion of my console underneath the tray located just under the lid of the console. I will put a couple of vents on the lower sides of the console to make sure the radio won't get overheated. It will be very easy to route the cable from this location to the dash board and keep everything hidden. The speaker is mounted to the rear of the console so it will be a cinch to hook it up.

Thanks for not only an entertaining post but for the great idea you have me!

P.S. Will, what type of radio do you have mounted vertically on the left?

I have an 05 Taurus, My center console folds up and can be an arm rest. But by doing that I loose the cup holders. (Gotta have cup holders) I know what a pain it is to install in a Taurus. Looks good! I have a GE/Maxon SM-4450 mounted under that cubby hole with a speaker below it. Then a goose neck universal holder for the scanner screwed into the side of the console tray. Not much radio room in them.

Not to hijack your post, Your Install looks great.

Hiya!

Alinco DR-235T, DR-235TG Amateur Mobile Transceiver <--click here - I own two of 'em; one here in the mobile install, and one in da shack.

My professional installer had to be ultra careful mounting it on the side of the console. He had to be sure that the seat adjustment would clear the connectors on the back of the radio, and that it was positioned so that the display could be read by the driver without squinting or tilting your head.

The DTMF mic in the bottom pic is NOT for the DR-235; it's for a Motorola VHF CM-300 mounted otherwise further down the console.

The little speaker just to the left of the DR-235 is very small, but actually sounds really great!
