2008 VW Golf - Scanner + Antenna Install...
took these while bored today... My car is a 2008 VW Golf, didnt want to drill holes so this install has NO HOLES at all. Uniden Remote Head RH96 is mounted on a Lido Floor Mount and has a custom cable i made that has both audio and data running through it to the boot where my Uniden UBC396T (Aussie version of the BCD396T) is located. I do freelance photography part time (Photography Student at Uni the rest) so this is almost a work vehicle.
Any questions or comments would be welcomed...

It is but... Works fine, doesnt interfere too much and plenty of 4x4s mount there here, its the only place i could actually mount haha... Also my garage at home is fairly low, mounting the antenna any higher it would scrape all the time and just annoy me in general.

Nicely done.
And nice Golf, interesting to see some "not-available-in-the-US" options in your car. What motor?

That mount would get you a ticket in the states.

I'm gonna guess 'press' or 'photographer'....
Some countries do things a wee bit differently... Like wiring things to the boot, or taking a peek under the bonnet..

As a fellow Golf owner I have to say "Nice"!
The 'P' indicates the driver holds a provisional drivers license rather than a full license. Depending on the state you live in, it means there are restrictions on engine size, speed and number of passengers.

Holy wide angle batman! More pics of the scanner mount! What size lens did you use for the interior shot?

Cool install. That antenna would drive me nuts though. : ) I installed a phantom antenna on my ride and it works much better than the 24" 3db gain whip antenna I had on there before. To each his own though, right? Thanks for sharing.

Its a 15mm Fish Eye on a 5D Canon body. Im away from the car untill early october but when im back i will take some more, i made a mount out of some metal angle brackets from Bunnings to go on the top of the Lido mount.

Doesnt worry me, at the moment im living in a semi rural area (Wagga Wagga for those in Australia), But when im in the city i put a smaller antenna on it just to make it easier...

Nice car, nice photo's, nice camera and a great install!
If the antenna works for you there- then fine.
I'd prefer a Diamond hatchback mount myself.
My next car will be a wagon, so that will be the way to go in the future for me.
In NSW it is a provisional license. South of the border we call it a probationary license.
Same deal, no turbo's or big V8's, zero blood alcohol and limited passengers.
For three years!
Love the RH-96- use one here too!
Keep up the photography work.
Regards, Commscanaus.

He has had a harsh speaking with :P Parts where done professionally but none of the design was, only installing the crome nudge bar and running the antenna coax.

Also in between the speedo and rev guage thingy (Car is auto, Why do i need it anyway?) in some empty space i am going to velcro a pager for when i move to Melbourne, picks up the page that chief officers get to 2 Alarm + Fires. Will be velcro mounted, cheap and easy.

An off topic question, on right hand drive vehicles is the gas pedal still on the right? If it is on the left you would operate the clutch with the right foot and would brake to the right of the gas pedal, I'm afraid of what would happen to me if I visited Europe and rented a car. As I'm accustomed to my left operating the clutch and moving to the left of the gas pedal to brake, I could see myself trying to move my left foot the left to put on the brakes. I would have enough trouble trying to keep track of the right and left turns and where I'm supposed to wind up on the cross streets.
Thanks for sharing you photos with us. I agree that the antenna location is a bit different. It would have been my preference to mount it on the rear bumper. I have a similar situation with antennas and getting in/out of the garage. I have a Subaru wagon and I mounted Larson short antennas using Comet mounts on the rear door. Larson makes a dual band (2m 70cm) antenna that is around 17" (43 cm) high. They also make a multi-band scanner antenna of about the same height. Clears the garage door with about a .8 to 1 meter to spare. The added height and the influence of the roof as a partial ground plane make up for the short height.

Great install. Nice to see the steering wheel on the correct side for once.

Good question!
In a stick shift, the clutch is on the left, brake in the middle and accelerator on the right.
You use the heel and toe of the right foot to brake and gas- and clutch in out with the left!
Gear shift is obviously left handed.
For some stupid reason I used to think the clutch and accelerator are other way around in a LHD!!
Auto trans is all right foot! Kind of lazy and boring for "real" car drivers- but that is what I drive!
Gearing up/down in heavy traffic drives me nuts! (Pun intended)
Never driven a LHD- many imports here get converted to RHD (such as Mustangs for example) which makes for easier lane changes because we drive on the left here!
Confused yet?
By the way- the island of Samoa has just swapped from the right side of the road to the left- so there will be plenty of confusion there at the moment!
Regards, Commscanaus
Oh and NSWESP- enjoy Melbourne- StKilda has a great aptmosphere in summer- plenty to look at
