Default Simple Mobile Setup ('96 Jeep Cherokee)

This is a simple setup that my friend introduced me to. It's a 3/4" NMO mount with a BNC connector at the end that gets hooked into my Motorola GP340 (HT750). It's temporary until I get mobiles. This is mostly used for scanning some local UHF public safety channels and the rest consists of 440 Ham frequencies.

Comments are encouraged, other than that I need to wash/clean my vehicle, that's a given!

I have a Cherokee similar to that, with a dual band (UHF/VHF) 8800r remote mount head mounted above my steering wheel, along the flat bottom of the dash frame. It fits on there good, and only obstructs the tripometer, which I don't really use anyway. And since it's above the steering wheel, you can easily drive and look at/manipulate the radio head with very little effort and in a much safer manner than looking down further to more traditional radio mount locations. Just a suggestion.

Get the coax out of the door frame. Its easy to get that trim out and run it behind it. Your going to pinch that off and break the cable.

The weather seal closes around it and I can stick my pinky in between the door and dash and feel a small gap between the coax. I am thinking about rerouting it straight down and let a little of the coax be exposed up toward the corner of the dash instead of there, but thanks for the suggestion!

Rodstrong, I have an HT without a display and only 16 channels, so I can manipulate the radio easily. I'll keep that in mind though when I do decide to get a true mobile setup with a remote head. Most likely though, I'll get a Mobile with a Full DTMF mic on it and usually they come with a channel up and down button on them, its just a matter of glancing over at the display to confirm the channel your on.
