My "New" Ford Five Hundred
Hey folks. Wanted to post some pics of my newly aquired Ford Five Hundred. Installed stuff includes the following :
Equipment:
1 - Uniden BCT-8
1 - Midland VHF 8 channel mobile
1 - Motorola Syntor - 800 MHz (Soon to be out of service & replaced with an XTL5000)
1 - Rechargeable MagLite
Antennas :
1 - Antennex VHF 5/8 wave on driver rear quater panel ( Midland )
1 - Antennex 800 on passenger rear quater panel ( Moto Syntor )
1 - Maxrad UHF 1/4 wave on trunk lid ( BCT-8 for 440 monitoring )
1 - Maxrad 800 1/4 wave on trunk lid ( BCT-8 for Rowan/Salisbury & VIPER Analog monitoring )
Been working on this on & off for about 2 weeks now. Hope you enjoy the pics & the fact that I "manned up" & drilled the trunk lid, lol. Feedback is appreciated !!!!!

Finally! We have someone who's not afraid to drill holes in to a newly acquired car. Very clean install! It looks very professional.

Very nice job! I like the "factory look" of having the scanner mounted in the dash.
Good job "manning up" and putting some REAL antenna mounts on the trunk!

Took me 48 hours into the purchase of my Sport Trac to have holes drilled in the roof!
It's a real shame that the radio manufacturers (AM/FM/CD/etc) can't make a real nice looking single DIN. The BCT8 looks more factory than the Jensen style. Still looks good!

I like it!!! Nice, simple and clean.
On a side question, what type of AM/FM head unit do you have ? Looks like an Alpine to me. How do you like it??
Good luck with your set up.

The AM/FM head unit is actually a VR3. It was on sale at Wal-Mart about 3 1/2 years ago for $50.00. The main reason I got it was so I could use my thumb drive to play all my music from. Keeps from having a bunch of CD's in the car. As far as performance, it runs a close second to the Clarion head units that I used to run when I was still working at the local car stereo shop.
On another note, I appreciate all the positive comments thus far. I really do like the fact that the last 2 Fords ( this car & the Explorer ) I had before thishave double DIN openings so I could put the BCT-8 in the dash. The next project is the get my LED package for the FD installed, & I'm thinking this weekend will be the time for it if the weather cooperates. As far as drilling holes I have no problem with that. Done it with every vehicle I've had. It looks professional, and not to metion the fact that with the tinted windows & black antennas people don't ride my back bumper, and they stay back about 3/4 of a car length at stop lights, lol.
If anyone else gets a vehicle like this & needs advice just give me a shout. I can take the trim back off to show people how to disassemble the dash. Again, thanks for all the positive comments !!!!

The installation looks great!!! I like the antenna installation, but I would think about relocating your transmit antennas to the threw hole mount nmo's. I think that especially the vhf antenna would perform better in the center of the trunk with an adequate ground plane. I guess I would try various combination's to see which works the best.
Good luck,
Bill

I thought about that but when I did the install I put the VHF on my handy Byrd watt meter & was getting 40 watts forward & only 3/4 of a watt reflected. With a 1/4 wave installed it was still just a hair under 40 watts forward & 1/2 reflected. Of course the 800 I didn't worry about putting it on the meter.
The 2 antennas for the scanner ( UHF & 800 1/4 wave's ) were originally located on each side of the trunk on L brackets also. I was getting to much into the scanner being that close to the TX antennas and I was afraid of blowing the front end out of the scanner, not to mention it looked really cluttered with 4 antennas on L Brackets. Just thought it would look better with the smaller antennas on the trunk.
Again, thanks for all the positive comments !!!

I also have a 500.and have been toying of putting the scanner in a DIN mount.
Then I lose the steering wheel controls for the stereo. I also like that "stock" look.
Nice install, plenty of food for thought here.
