He's a regular contributor here on RR Keith; He might wish to remain anonymous, then again, he might respond to this thread. He's a FT FF/PM, and works PT for a professional installation company. I'm too old, fat, and have bad eyes, so I leave the work to a pro like my tech.

Yours is similar to mine, although mine is a '01 with a few more radios and features. Check mine out on my profile pics page:

The RadioReference.com Forums - K9WSS's Albums

If you haven't already done so, equip your ride with a professional-grade quality vehicle alarm system. Although mine is generally parked in the garage, I rarely go anywhere that I can't either see or be within range of my alarm's notification fob (two-way alarm system). I don't want to take any chances because I have an investment in the install and associated equipment. Everything was done by a professional installation tech.

You can see that I have permanent NMO mounts for the antennas. I don't like magnetic mounts (see my signature below), and refuse to sacrifice performance for vanity.

Thanks.

I will post more pics.

@ Mick if your Tahoe doesn't have the tap installed for you you can try three different ways:

1. Wire to be always hot (my preference)
2. Use the RADIO fuse to allow operation while in accessory mode.
3 Use the HEATER / AC FAN to allow operationonly while engine running.

Hope this helps

My friends that have the D-Star swear by it, I'm a little more skeptical. My reasons aren't to bizarre but here are a few:
1. I hate monopolies, D-Star is porprietary and I just don't like the idea of 1 source for your gear.
2. APCO 25 is open source and more reliable but has not caught on with manufacturers yet.
3. The D710 seems to be the only imbedded TNC that outputs WayPoints and allows access to the TNC command line.

[QUOTE=W9RXR;1707088]Also, consider the solution I came up with in this post:

2011 Tahoe PPV Install

Since the Jotto bracket I found doesn't have anything on the sides of the well that the head sits in, I didn't have to worry about making clearance for the connectors on the side of the head, though I did have to make clearance for the 8-pin mini-DIN connector on the back of the head.[QUOTE]

Robert's solution was definitely on of the best / easiest ideas in the forum for the D710A control head. I just have to do things my way and keep the boat rocking.

Sort of. D-STAR protocol was originally developed by the JARL - Japanese Amateur Radio League and is actually open-source. Where they get you is that the AMBE voice encoding that is standard in D-STAR is patented by DVSI Inc., and licensed exclusively to Icom. That's where the scheme is.

For the last two years K6BP and VK5DGR have had an experimental alternative voice encoding method that they have been playing with called Codec2. (Codec 2 Rowetel)

Haven't heard anything about it for a while though.

Thankfully I know the dealer pretty well, that truck posted today and 5 people called about it already. I had to place a deposit before even seeing it so it wouldn't sell before I could get to chicago to get it. I placed my deposit and booked my bus ticket to leave Memphis at 1115pm on the 28th. I will get to Chicago around 9am and my father in law will pick me up and take metro get the Tahoe. I will probably hang out with him and stay the night and drive back Thursday.

Your in the Memphis area aren't you?
Chicago you say, so it must be Chicago Motors Inc as they are a well known x-police vehicle dear (Me looked & know it is them). It looks to be in good condition for a used marked unit, has the typical wear and tear one would expect. I do like the dual spot lights, that is a mean look and I had that on a 05 Tahoe SSV I once owned. They always have good prices on their vehicles and seems to sell them quickly. I do agree tinted windows are a must have, makes the Tahoe look 10x better.

Indeed it is. I have had great luck with vehicles from them. Great guys to deal with. They knew I was looking for one so they let me know as soon as they knew it was coming. When the pictures went up I put a deposit on it. I will be there next week to get it. I can't wait!

Yep! Hopefully I can order my scanner soon. Having trouble finding an oem console. Going to look a little longer, if nothing still I will get a floor plate and a dedicated console. I am loving your mobile wireless set up. I may end up doing something like that to at some point.

I am not a big fan of CB's especially the crap you hear on them but it is nice to have when traffic isn't moving so you can plan your escape. Besides, the scanner will pick up 27 MHz but not very well. My nacissistic side likes listening to the truckers trying to figure out what the hell that black Tahoe with all the antennas is all about and the better half insists on having one. I have fought the idea for months, let's face it I have enough antenns. Yep, I caved in, if Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy so I got a 2 ft fiberglass whip and a magnetic mount for the Cobra 25, what the heck... Then on a whim, whilst installing the Vertex LEDs in my taillights I noticed that the plastic farings extending from the back windows are HOLLOW!!

The 2 ft antenna fit inside the faring perfectly!

You can't tell it's there!

But it has about 1.1 to 1.2 : 1 SWR (probably all reflected from metal) and works just fine!

I'll finish mounting the CB tomorrow. And YES I did tighten down the antenna stud.

OH by the way I also caved in on PJH's suggestion but with a little twist. The Motorola MW800s for $500 was a nice find but the same place has tech specials for $50! I bought 4 of them and will refurb one and install it in the comming weeks. There is a lot of the previously engineered equipment that will have to be changed and I'm not sure about using the MW800's WiFi to create a mobile hotspot like the internet panel will but I'll figure it out...

Stay tuned!

PS PJH, Thanks for the lead, I told you I valued your opinion.....
