We are required to wear them here in KS. We just buy the XXL vests so we can swing them over bunker gear on MVA's.

If you don't have it on and are struck or injured some places won't cover you insurance wise. We have to wear ours even if out just turning hydrants and other non emergency events

Got lots of plans and stuff to do but less and less money to devote to it. Currently working on a better mobile internet and will start on a new computer platform after that. Going to set up an ITX computer to run smaller faster and do more. Think of it as a big desktop computer condensed to the size of a cigar box. It's based on this motherboard:

Newegg.com - ASRock E350M1/USB3 AMD E-350 APU (1.6GHz, Dual-Core) AMD A50M Hudson M1 Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo

Does mobile Internett interfere and disturb any of your radios or the other way - radios interfere with mobile internet?

I'm still using the bluetooth tether from my USB modem with decent results. A simple soultion would actually just be a Cradlepoint. Quite a few are on ebay these days under $50. I am thinking to go that route as the wife's work has a new VPN requirement and doesn't always play well with the tether.

Actually yes, the WRT54G gives me fits with intermod (birdies) on some of my favorite and most used frequencies, like: 146.550 (simplex channel most common for chasers & spotters), 147.210 a common repeater frequency. The Kenwood 790 hears much less of the noise but on V-Fire-21 154.280 the intermod is deafening.

These are part of the reason I am looking at the Cradlepoint failover system. The "pocket" hotspots don't have enough range to suit me and the USB aircard modem doesn't do very well in remote locations. The amount of loss in the coaxial cable running to the antenna pretty much negates the fact that it is externally mounted. Looking at the specs of the Cradlepoint modem of the MBR-1200 it will easily run circles around my current USB modem even with the external amp. 802.11-N connectivity with the laptop and tablet is also a plus but I am hoping the "birdies" on 55 & 210 disappear with the newer system.

It may be a couple more months before I can devote the attention to my beloved truck again, right now I am focusing on my new business and getting as much debt paid off as possible. If this venture doesn't work I don't want a lot of bills hanging over my head, that will insure multiple options either way.

Its not the wifi per se, but check the power supply. Some of those wallwarts have been known to be noisy in the RF enviroment. Consumer electronics these days seem to be not as well shielded as they use to be.

There aren't any wall-warts in my system. The WRT54G and Wilson Amplifier are 12 volt and the Cradlepoint failover is 6 volt. I'm using a filter / heavy duty regulator on the front end to keep input at 12 volts for the WiFi and the amplifier then another 6 volt regulator for the Cradlepoint failover. The intermod on 2 meters drops dramatically when the router is unplugged but I still have the problem on V-Fire-21 (154.280) indicating that the regulator may be the culprit there.

Now when I turn on the 2500 watt inverter all kinds of hell breaks loose !

On August 10, 2005, President Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), which authorizes the Federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety, and transit for the 5-year period 2005-2009. Pursuant to this law, the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) proposed a new federal regulation on April 24, 2006 published in volume 71 Federal Register, page 20925 (71 Fed. Reg. 20925) that requires all workers within the right-of-way of a Federal-aid highway to wear an ANSI 107 (2004) Class 2 or 3 high-visibility vest. On November 24, 2006 the FHA published the final rule, which becomes effective on November 24, 2008, at 71 Fed. Reg. 67792. All first responders working within the right-away of a federal-aid highway are covered by the new Rule. Why does extra visibility protection matter?
