why run a amp on the aprs, wont it desense the other radios?

Since the digipeater coverage where I am is "lacking" just the 5W hand held wasn't cutting it so the amp was added and works wonders. There is a brief desense when the beacon fires but at most I'll miss one word from a conversation.

how much power are you running on the aprs, i run 5watts, dont you desense the scanner?

~50W with the amplifier, it does cause a momentary desense if I'm listening to something on VHF when the beacon fires but honestly it's not much of an issue since the majority of what I listen to is 800Mhz trunked.
