I'm afraid it'll be a while before mine approaches the greatness that is WX4EMT's Tahoe, if it ever does. I do have a few more things in mind for it though...

What is needed to crimp one of those connectors on?

Forgive me, I was in a hurry and didn't have time to shop around. Here is the PL-259 you will need and a crimp tool. BEWARE! the crimping tool is VERY size specific. That means not only the size connector but the size of the cable as well (typically RG-58U) this one is an example:

Crimper Crimping Tool 10 x PL 259 UHF Male Crimp Connector LMR 195 RG58 | eBay

I got the pro set with different size dies but then I do a LOT of radio work. Don't do like I did and get lazy & not use the right die on a given connector / cable combo. Close enough doesn't work on this one. I busted a $20 die because I got in a hurry. That SOB is definitely CRIMPED for good now though!!

I used to specify solder connectors for PL-259 but I have totally switched to crimp on and will never go back to solder on for RG-58...... Maybe RG-8 but definitely NOT for the smaller stuff.

Another suggestion.... run your cable, mount your radio and go by the CB shop and ask 'em to crimp you on a PL-259. Probably the cheapest option.....

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; U; en-US) Gecko/20081217 Vision-Browser/8.1 301x200 LG VN530)

Just to remind, bnoland sold off his Tahoe, so there's only WX4EMT'S and AggiePhil's to compare. Personally, I like both, and I don't think I could choose
(Some day, I hope to have a custom K2500 Suburban, but that's still a long way's off.)

I have to agree. I like both very much, but to be honest, I would say I like WX4EMT's slightly better. I am not saying that AggiePhil's isn't good(its quite amazing as well).

Dude...lol. I haven't really even done anything yet, cept for the floor mats and window tint! This is a work in progress. Besides, I think starting out with a brand new police Tahoe is half the battle.

Alright guys. I got the Laird C27S and the Pro.Fit Tahoe hood/fender NMO mount installed. Problem is, the antenna is around 54" long and hits the garage door, then drags across the ceiling. So it's a no-go right now. Would there be any way to cut a foot or so off the length of the whip and fine tune it to the proper length? I know that longer is better, but Firestik makes 3" (and even 2", I think) CB antennas.

If that isn't an option, I'll have to look into alternate locations. The only one I can thing of right now would be to take the mount below and either enlarge the hole to 3/4" for the NMO antenna or leave it as-is and use a Firestik antenna. I could then mount it to the inside edge of the driver's side tail lamp assembly, which would put the antenna right behind the tail lamp.

You can't cut it...it would never be tuned right. You meant 2 foot and 3 foot not inches right. I think firestik makes a 3 / 4 foot in black/red/white.

Yes, feet, sorry. Gotta love not being able to go back and edit your posts. Ugh!

Firestik makes all kinds of lengths. 2', 3', 4', etc. I'm now thinking about using a Firestik with the mount I just installed via an NMO to threaded CB antenna adapter. Those work alright?
