As a crew chief on a hot air balloon, the distances involved were not all that close. However I very much dislike the discoloration on the mouth of the balloon. That pilot has overheated the fabric badly! I very much doubt that envelope would pass US FAA inspection. I know I would not want to be a passenger in that system.

I used to crew for a hot air ballon and one came down with a hard landing. The heater started the fabric on fire very quickly. Luckily only a small secion burned and no one was injured. Glad nothing happened for you.

I heard of stealing antennas but this is ridiculous! I'm glad you caught them and chased them away before you had a mystery on your hands, the mast is still there but where's the antenna???

That would scare the bejeezus out of me, having something near a setup like that. Thank goodness they got it out of there.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; U; en-US) Gecko/20081217 Vision-Browser/8.1 301x200 LG VN530)

The angle of the pic makes it look deceiving, it probably isn't all that close at that particular moment. Not saying it couldn't have gotten closer, however.
And yea, the pilot has over-heated the fabric there. I used to be on a crew for 12+ years

Wicked photo Gmacka!

Very interesting post regarding the discoloration of the fabric envelope due to overheat by the burners.
We get quite a few balloons around here and I will be keeping an eye out for that!

Always wanted to go for a flight in a balloon!

Would you be taking any of your radios along? It would be a cool idea to see what you could pick up while in a ballon.
