I'm kinda not liking where I have the amplified speakers, but I need them for the Unidens. I welcome any ideas for placement.

I have had good luck with powered speakers under the drivers seat, pointed out at the footwell, of course, and been able to hear just fine. Let me guess, you got to thinking about passengers over there and what might happen to the speakers...

Since your asking about the speakers, I would move the Motorola over to the side of the center console in front of where your wireloom curves around. Your right radio is already sticking out past the edge and the speaker would fit down and in front of it in the now dead legroom space. Then I would raise the left speaker as high as I could mount it and mount the second right below it. May have to put 2 slits in the floor mat to slide over the mount. To remove the mat, just unscrew the speaker side screws and slide it off and out for cleaning. This would get all the speakers to one side of the footwell as well for passenger comfort.

All that stuff on your dash seems like a bit of an obstruction. If you got pulled over by a cop no doubt they would mention all the stuff on your dashboard. Other than that I like where the scanners are :) I would see about putting the UHF radio face in between the USB and cigarette lighter or maybe get an air vent clip for it.

so how do you like the Maxrad BMAX1000 for a scanner antenna?

Thanks for all the kind words and ideas everyboby. As far as the Maxrad BMAX1000 scanner antenna, it drops off the distant low band a bit, but where I am that actually is a good thing, With a Radio Shack Mag Mount Scanner antenna, Magnet-mount mobile scanner antenna : Mobile Scanner Antennas | RadioShack.com I was getting distant signals from upstate and New Jersey. The Maxrad is tuned for the frequencies I listen to. I'm quite pleased with it, hence transferring it from the old car to the new one.

All that stuff on your dash seems like a bit of an obstruction. If you got pulled over by a cop no doubt they would mention all the stuff on your dashboard. Other than that I live where the scanners are :) I would see about putting the UHF radio face in between the USB and cigarette lighter or maybe get an air vent clip for it.

My previous i-Phone 4 wouldn't work if it were in the sun longer than a few minutes. I re-mounted my iPhone mount onto my Jotto Desk Lazy-L with screws provided with one of the face plates. They fit the Ram Mount perfectly, and the phone is out of the sun for the most part.

Yes, in IL the devices mounted on the dashboard would be considered an obstruction to the driver's view. Check with your local state for rules and city ordinances. Also keep airbag obstruction(s) in mind when installing equipment in your vehicles. Nothing worse than being in a traffic crash, let alone having components in your beautiful installation becoming missiles to you and your passenger(s).

I LOVE the fact that you are using permanent NMO mounts for your antennas. Nothing worse than mucking up a professional installation with magnetic mounts which are compromises to optimum performance at best. Plus ruining paint finishes which magnetic mounts do all the time.

Really nice job on the install. Neat and orderly with very little wiring showing. A recomendation for the speaker situation would be to build a small box to combine all the audio inputs and send them to a common speaker allowing you to have just one speaker for all the radios. I do this in the shack and mobile. I run 4 scanners on one speaker in the shack and a dualbander and a scanner in the mobile thru one speaker.

I copied a post on here somewhere where a fellow used an Altoids can to make the combiner but I used a small project box from ratshack. A four speaker box would need 5 1/8" female audio connectors, the project box and (10) 1K ohm resistors on each audio lead for isolation. It works well.

There is also a company that make a four channel speaker combiner with a built in amplifier for commercial radio use. They work good also but cost well over $200.00

Updated Pictures

Based on some of the responses, I made some changes this morning. Again, thanks to everyone who commented and contributed ideas. I found a spot under the dash on the driver side for one speaker, and moved the other speaker to the "dead" space on the right. Now peoples' legs fit. New York doesn't prohibit suction cup mounts on windshields (I don't think), and the placement of my blue light and radio head really doesn't obstruct my view of the road. I can't seem to find a good spot for the head anyway. I removed the phone mount, as it was a redundant piece of equipment. My car stereo features Bluetooth with display, and GPS, so having the phone up where I can see it is now unneccessary. Here are some updated pictures, as well as a shot of the FT-7800 main unit in the trunk I forgot to post yesterday.

Very nice and clean install, love the antenna placement and setup of the radios/scanners. Not a fan of the speakers though, Should shoot for some compact ones.

Me, too, but I haven't found a compact speaker that's amplified, which is needed for the Uniden scanners...

I have a question. I see in one of the first posts of the speakers that they have red lights on them. Do those come on when that speaker is active or they on constantly ?
