what is your default scanner antenns ? what do you use ? i bought a modified Jpole made for 2/440 transmitting from N9TAX and this thing receives everything the BCD996XT in my house is capable of receiving from down in the CB radio area all the way up to 900 megahertz clear as a bell have not found any activity above that going the rest of the way to 1.3 gig, but for a 25.00 antenna with the coax and connector of your choice attached its a damn good antenna to hang in the attic and use as a scanner and secondary transmitter if you want to look at his design or order one enter his call sign into google and his website will come up.Also should you decide you eant a communications speaker WD9HSY on Ebay regularly sells Standard ,Motorola ,Vertex,ICOM ,Kenwood speakers that have been removed refurbished tested and are being resold from police and fire vehicles i bought a pair of Standard Comm speakers that looked brand new the retail on them would have been 180 a piece i paid 40 for the pair i believe in supporting the ham community if i can buy it from a ham i will before buying it anywhere else.

Thanks for the info. I live in the middle of Houston so I get everything from all directions. I dont really need an external antenna for the scanner because I am basically on top of the action per-say. Also I mostly use the scanner for conventional purposes. I have a Gre PSR-500 I use for PS.

Hi KD8CHM. I'll bet the last thing you expected your post to bring was a reprimand about what types of radios you decided to use. Some people just find it difficult to be complimentary but have no problem offering negative comments.

You're shack looks neat and I hope you get lots of enjoyment from it. Good for you!

Russell

Thanks Russel. Actually being part of forums for a long time, it's to be expected and it's everywhere you go. I am not surprised at all. The only person that needs to be happy is myself in the end.

Yeah; they aren't the ones that have to please your wife.

Nice station setup, by the way.

No, your gear looks great.

Because the pictures are sooooo small, like in 1998-web-small.

I'm retracting this comment because I only just now noticed the OP's statement at the end of his post that he doesn't generally use the CB for transmitting, and I also see that N2PYS didn't advocate modifying a ham rig to transmit. Mea Culpa.

If you have the current HRO catalog or look at the one online it is page 39 that you want to look at for radio stackers. In any event be proud of your Control Room and Enjoy it , Life is short compared to the dirt nap we take so use it , love it , and don't take ny of our suggestions as we are slamming your Control Room we all just have different ideas, and thats what makes us individuals- There is not a damn thing wrong with your station as long as YOU ARE HAPPY !! that is the most basic element to it all. and make sure to show it off to all those who gifted towards it so they know how Happythey made you!!

Peace

Good luck on that!! After almost 10 years of marriage, my wife still wonders why I need more than one scanner. She looks at all my radios and just shakes her head and walks away anytime I try to get her interested.

Be care what you wish for i got my wife interested and we got our tickets together My Wife N2PYR and Myself N2PYS well she decided she hated my family and has not divorced me, but is in the QTH and has taken the last name of KB2DYB Dennis Cinclini in Cairo N.Y. i do not know how a married woman gets DMV to change her name or the F.C.C to let her change her name on her Federal license without divorce or some kind of judicial paperwork, and she will not answer a phone call email text message or radio gram and shortly after we where married she was hospitalized and diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic with borderline personality disorder and i do not believe she has stayed on her medication's .So Hopefully my experience with Rae getting involved in radio is the exception to the norm, Good Luck to all you guys who want their Yl's to get the bug and join the hobby because we certainly could use some more female Ham's in our ranks- Like when i was a Volunteer Firefighter we could not have performed better without both Female Firefighters and the Ladies Auxiliary they work as hard as we do and they are much better to cuddle with lets face it!!

So when she shakes her head, I remind her that her stash of shoes out-numbers my radios by eight to one....so....I've got some serious shopping to do and catch up!
