Default *Update* 2011 F350 Mobile Ofiice

My previous pictures: 2011 F-350 Mobile Office

Wanted to do an update. I got a TM-V71a for Christmas from my now fiance. With the radio I also received a DFK-3 Remote kit. I had used the metal bracket that came with the kit but I found that it vibrated too much.

Because the faceplate was going in the same place that the FT-8800 control head was, and the metal bracket vibrated too much, I simply drilled holes to mate the control head holder to the bracket that is attached to the M-800. other than the addition of the TM-V71a and a company issued 3G Ipad and RAM mount, not much else has changed aside from removing the privacy handset for the M800 that I never use.

Sadly I still have to buy fender brackets to eliminate the mag mounts. omething I did not do last year, but if I wait long enough I will mile out this truck and get a new one. I currently have a Larsen NMO2/70 hole mounted, a PCTel 1/2wave for the TK-760hg on a magmount, a PCTel 1/4wave on a magmount for APRS and some random (Maxrad maybe??) elevated feed 800Mhz antenna for the M800 that now has an open coil radiator after the closed coil failed on me late last summer.

I got this truck at the beginning of April last year with about 62000Km on it and ended the year with a little over 128000Km. Yes I drove 66000Km or around 8200Km/Month last year.

I've always liked your installs because they show a real world working setup. Not that others aren't but I think you and everyone else knows what I mean. Nicely done for a work truck.

Thanks again for the kind comments. Although my companies equipment manager has given me the go ahead to do what ever I want, I try and minimize my installs. The TK-760hg does not get a whole lot of use. I primarly use it for radio controlled roads while working. Once in a while I will use it to talk to my chainman if he is away from the truck and I am doing paperwork. Other than that it usually stays turned off unless I need it. The TM-V71a gets used everyday, as does APRS.

Do you type on the iPad much or do you not use it for that? If you do I highly suggest a Bluetooth keyboard. Logitech makes a nice one that includes a case. Makes typing a breeze and it could stay mounted. Of course, if you don't use it for that it may not be necessary or helpful.

While mobile I am not legally able to use the Ipad, BUT my company has an internally developed app for navigation. This app is geared towards the oil industry in western Canada. Using my internal company version of this app I can also pull up well site info. It also allows me to navigate using LSD(search 'third system of surveying'), UTM or Lat/Long coorinates. It also downloads Ariel photography some of it is very HD. So good you can see people that were in the picture when it was taken. I agree though, with where the IPad is I do need a wireless keyboard to input text. Up until yesterday I was placing it face down on my console which worked but was annoying. I will look into the keyboard you are referring to as I also do all my safety paperwork online or in another app that our company developed.

I was given the mount by the company. I do not know the specific model that it is, but it is a RAM Mount brand 'tough tray 2' on a 14inch aluminum rod mounted to the seat bolt on the passenger seat. Sorry I did not order it so I do not have a specific model.

Thanks. I did the install wanting my TM-V71a to be viewable/adjustable from the driver seat. The TK-760 is a set and forget radio. Volume rarely needs to be adjusted nor does the channel need to be changed very often. Only lousy thing is that the power button is hard to get to. But once on I only need to grab the mic and talk and once I am off the RC road it gets turned off.

I should've just posted it earlier but here is a direct link to the keyboard I was referring to. As you can see, it has a hard case it slips in so it'd be great for storing in the truck. Runs on AAA batteries (two, I believe) and lasts a long time. Highly recommended. Link:

Thumbs up

Hi there,

I absolutely love your set up! I have to ask...where did you find an iPad holder that will hold an iPad in a Griffin Survivor case? I have my iPad 2 in the very same case that you do, and every accessory is for an iPad WITHOUT a case (as if the general population ISN'T going to get some sort of case for their iPads). Please let me know where you found that, I'm very interested!

Great job with the install! Functional, and like the other fella said, "real world".

It is a RAM Mount. The retainers are adjustable. You can adjust the depth of the fingers that hold the Ipad by screws on the side of the tray.

I honestly have no idea who makes the case for my Ipad. It is a corporate Ipad, that I use for my job. I do know that it works very well, only down side is that sound is hard to hear unless you open the flap on the back.

What do you do for work? Like the setup, wish the iPad mini had a higher res screen, I'd use it in the truck, it would be an awesome GPS.

I work in Alberta's oil industry. I do buried facility location for one of the largest oil companies. I also survey in the oil patch as well. My ipad is used to do my safety paperwork, and also because all my work comes via E-mail from offices that are 300-600km away from where I am based, I use the ipad to display relevant data for my work rather than printing and wasting tons of paper. I also use my ipad to navigate in the oil roads, and it works very well. Moving at 100+KM/H I will have EPE of 10m or less.
