Ok, that's it, I'm DONE! No more room at the inn!!!!!
At this point, the idea of calling this "my little shack" is pretty much absurd!
I added a few more toys to put the finishing touches on the shack:
7 inch TFT monitor added to the IC-7000 ( video out through rear jack)
Motorola CDM 1550LS+ brand new, 160 channels, UHF 450-512 split ( GMRS stuff and NYPD monitoring)
The Ultimate Shack! Photo by Manfred-Leticia_Vives | Photobucket
I am done! No more real estate room!

Thanks RT! At first glance, it may look like overkill to a lot of people. The story behind that is simple! I had a lot of gear on both the Ham side and the scanning sidel. We fell into some really hard times and I was forced to sell most of my gear ( kept 1 portable and 1 base scanner) to put food on the table and pay rent. Well, we are out of that dreaded financial black hole by the grace of the Almighty, and now I am back with what I had before and a few extras that I didn't have! So in reality, this is a story of loss and recovery on many levels. And my wife made it very clear " This time, you are NOT selling anything". Now, I was going to say " what about when the newer toys come out?" but I figured that wouldn't sit too well so why rock the boat! LOL.....

Any idea if those batteries fit the UV-5RA also? It looks like the same set up as the -5R.
Thanks!

Thanks Russell! Yeah, I did plan it out. I'm a stickler about preparedness, neatness and doing things right the first time! Learned that lesson the hard way! LOL....

What exactly do you use the CDMs for?
I know you mentioned GMRS... NYPD????? We can pick that up from CT? Damn! I'll have to try that.
Besides that, local stuff? Email me about it, if you want.

I use the CDMs for anything and everything legally monitorable in the analog VHF-UHF spectrum.
I hold a GMRS license so I transmit there, and the rest is receive only. There is a HUGE difference in reception and audio quality when you monitor with a commercial radio vs. a scanner, especially a Motorola radio. There is no real way to describe it, you have to hear it for yourself. And yes, if you live near the shore, NYC reception is possible. Lots of factors like location, height above sea level, equipment used etc..
have to be taken into account of course!
