Here is my latest Mega Scanner.

Eight ICOM PCR100s
Stridsberg MCA208 Eight port BNC preamp splitter
8 USB audio sound cards for online streaming
8 Y audio splitters for sound cards and external Uniden BC7 7watt speakers.
Windows Media encoding with visual display for streaming
8 Scanner casts for uploading audio to RR
SIIG 8 port Serial port USB adapter for control (ICOM software wont see anything above com port 8)
I also added two PCIe 4 port USB cards to handle the data. One is for the 8 port serial SIIG serial adapter. The second is for the 13 port USB adapter that the sound cards are using.

Im building an audio switch box for the external speakers. I'll be able to manually switch each external speaker off/on.

Happy Scanning.

Very nice!!

I am very impressed that you not only put together this impressive monitoring station but that you dealt with and beat all the software challenges. I have three PCR 100's and a PCR 2500, you may have motivated me to do something integrated like this with with them.

It took a few months to design the system setup. The longest part and most difficult was finding eight ICOM PCR 100s, it took almost a year to collect them all. It was nice bringing this online yesterday. I moved all of my analog traffic to this system and it freed up my digital scanners for digital traffic and trunked traffic only.

My ICOM IC-R2500 DV, P25 is also running on this system.

CPU1 is running 61%, CPU 2 is 32%. XP 64bit, 8GB of RAM. I had 4GB in there at first, then I added another 4GB to relax it a bit.

Interesting. If you haven't already considered it, you might want to use an 8-channel audio-mixer instead of a custom on/off control. The mixer will give the ability to change individual volumes and keep the combined volume at a desired level, instead of only having on/off capability. It also would only require one set of speakers. -- just a thought.

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks, great idea! To bad I didn't think of that before I purchased the BC7 external speakers.

How does the SIIG 8 port Serial port USB work? Does it show up as one USB device? I run virtual machines on an ESXi server and it would be nice to assign a serial port to each machine.

The SIIG 8 port USB adapter shows each com port separately in the device manager.
