Hi,

Couple of pic's of my new shack. Finished building a new house last year and now have the shack all finished.

And this one is a close up of the main scanner area, with the PC that is dedicated to Radio Software such as trunker, uintrunker, PDW and the like.

Nice, Kev. It looks clean and organized...almost an untouched look to it. I think it needs to be a bit more messy.

Thanks,

The Yaesu's are a FT290R II and a FT690r II both in mint condition and have the Factory amps installed. The 2m mainly only does FM, very little SSB work but the 6m is mainly used on SSB. I love old rigs, as can be seen by the 520S Station on the other side of the bench

Looks great. Nice lightning and it appears everything is in within easy reach. It really looks like it all comes together. I like the pictures on the walls too.

Beautiful job there Kev!
I especially like the desk shelving arrangement.

Great to see another fellow VK putting some shack pics up here on RR.
Also nice to see someone else with a Phillips FM900 remote still in use- had several of those up until recently. A bullet proof front end and a radio that can be had cheap!

Yes those Yaesu FT290R/690R/790R MKII's are an excellent radio and still sought after- I wish I still had my 290R MkII- sold it to fund a digital camera. Big mistake!

I really like your setup. It is one of the best I've seen on RR. When I have time to build the shelving, the station will be similar to yours. The hutch top shelving you have has given me the idea not to just build my shelving in a quick, functional fashion, but to spend some extra time to have it look very similar to the two drawer oak filing cabinets it will sit on. Now if I can get some time in the summer, when there isn't snow on the roof, I Will be able to build my antenna and feed system the way I want.

Thanks for the nice comments guys,

This shack has been 20 years in the making. When we started designing our new house a few years ago the radio shack was designed from the start for this purpose. Things like power points and lighting where all in the design. I have 4 double power points spaced equally under the desk on the back wall and one more on the opposite wall for non radio stuff (the vacuum cleaner LOL) There are 3 down lights in the ceiling over the bench, these can be switched separately from the main room light which is a normal fitting in the centre of the room.

The desk and shelve unit where built by the same guy who did all the other cabinets in the house (kitchen, bathroom ….) He drew it on his cad system from my hand drawn design and it was prefabricated in his factory and installed on site. The desk is actually a L shape and has two filling/draw units, one in the middle and one at the end of the L. There are three computer cable holes in the desk top that take all cables under the desk in a cable race that runs up under the bench top at the back (the full length of the bench) the shelves are all adjustable and they are scalloped at the back to run the cables down the back to the races under the desk. All the coax exits through the wall in to a cupboard in the hall way outside and then up in to the roof. In Australia it is not common to have permeant access into the roof (attic) but I installed a full drop down ladder in the laundry roof to make access easy for running antenna cables.

This photo shows the unit a couple of days after moving in before everything was installed (shows the desk a bit better)

Thanks again for the nice comments, and I might post some photos of past shacks to show that it wasn’t always this flash.

nice setup--glad the XYL doesn't read this forum, she hasn't seen the top of my desk, for the papers and junk, for quite some time! ;)

Ha Ha , no not the neighbours, I live in a rural area and our house backs on to a bush area there is lots of Wildlife (NativeBirds, Kangaroos, Wallabys) to observe. Also i live close to a Airport and use the binoculars to identify planes as they pass overhead.

great looking setup, before reading the details I thought it might have been in your office at work as some exec. The granite looks awesome.
