I think Romney has just insured that it will be a close race.
I was surprised by Romney's choice of Ryan. I think that Romney is a very smart person. I suspect that he knows something we don't. Something that is contrary to the conventional wisdom. One possibility is that he has polling data indicating that he is competing well among independents but is weak among strong conservatives. So he could be positioning himself to draw more votes from this segment of the Republician party.

I expect it to be a very close election.

As we all know, translating intelligence into politics doesn't always fit. I've suspected for years that the two are mutually exclusive. At every elective office, you need to give something up... intelligence, your soul, your backbone, etc. By the time you reach the top, there isn't a whole lot left.

I'm sure he's being told things we're not aware of. But I'm completely unconvinced that Ryan is capable of bringing in too many voters who are currently sitting on the fence. I mean, * I * am one of those undecided voters, and bringing in a staunch conservative onto the ticket isn't doing much to sway me.

If such polling data existed, I'm quite certain some news outlet or another would publish it. I haven't seen it, but then I have more important things to do than see how either candidate is doing in the polls.

This makes sense. He wants to draw in ALL of the Republican party.

Unless something interesting comes up between now and then, it WILL be a close election. I don't think either candidate is capable of receiving a so-called 'mandate' from the voters. It's going to be a matter of which candidate leaves less of a bitter aftertaste, just like last time.

Maybe the president should be chosen on television on one of those shows, where people get eliminated each week. Whoever is left at the end wins. Either that or everyone votes via text messaging.

You would get more people voting that way, for sure!

Pat Paulson for President!

The republicans really shouldn't be working for the right wing conservative vote. They already have that. They need to convince the people who are disappointed with Obama, or on the fence, to commit to Romney. I think the republicans need to loosen up a bit and court the younger voters who are still out of work and paying student loans off. If they can get that segment behind them, they'll win. Those of us who didn't vote Obama last time ate not gonna vote for him again.

+1. I said as much in another thread and got labeled a "drama queen" as if to add insult to injury. Not being an "internet tough guy" but I promise you, nobody who I deal with face to face would be inclined to say that

It was a joke and should have been taken as such, Ridge, c'mon.

;-) Have a happy and healthy, and try not to think about politics during the festivities, I sure won't be!

Regards,

Jim

Why not? The Republican party had more to do with Romney's loss then did the people who voted for Obama. Until they get their mindset out of the 18th century, and come up with a platform that represents what the American public can live with, and no longer placate the extreme right, inflexible teabaggers and wild-eyed religious groups who barely believe in indoor plumbing, the Republican Party will continue to slide into oblivion. In my opinion, neither party (along with their extreme left or right loonies) represent our nation's interests or needs - just their own outdated ideologies and petty self interests. Membership in political parties is decreasing every year as the voters actually begin to think for themselves (with the obvious exception of 17th Century evangelicals in the "heartland". There is now a miniscule credibility or respect for either of the houses of Congress who couldn't agree to evacuate from a fire in the Congressional pub or the Kennedy trist room in the Whitehouse..

Default Republican Candidates

[QUOTE=zz0468;1710605]Paranoid much?

Seriously, though. Why can't Republicans find a candidate that actually has enough voter appeal to win?

EXACTLY RIGHT! List em here
1. Ron Paul: Never had ANY significant legislation he sponsored pass the Congress
2. New Gingrich: Polls poorly among women, carries more baggage than a 747 Jumbo Jet
3. Rick Perry: Does not know that IRAQ and IRAN share a border
4. Rick Santorum: A 1 issue candidate Abortion and Abortion and Abortion And Abortion......
5. Herman Cain: Not smart enough Has much to learn

There must be SOMEONE out there that we can run that can get elected.
