Well Bruce, you hit the head on the nail and the current state of affairs proves "honest" Abe told the biggest lie in history. "...that government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the Earth." There never WAS such a government and never WILL be, government is NOT a democracy, it is republican. The only thing democratic is the electoral process, I wish people would stop calling America a democracy!

First the dinosaur Electoral College must GO, we are no longer a land of uneducated peasant farmers with little to no communication, the College has long outlived its usefulness. Next eliminate the two party system where we are given a choice of two candidates in all three branches already chosen by the powers that be and institute the Parliamentary system which gives a much wider choice. I forget what they call it but Australia has the best way to elect officers I have seen yet, look it up for yourselves being it's a bit too much to get into here.

There is a hornet in the ointment however, the Supreme Court. They alone have the power to toss out the old and bring in the new but guess what, they are appointed and not about to bite the hand that feeds them. Australia doesn't have this problem, if an officer isn't up to par the people may petition and Parliament hold a general election, the will of the people moderated. They often prevail because like here ministers value their jobs and votes count.

Unfortunately the Constitution was written before democratic parliamentarian government came into being. If our Founding Fathers could have looked forward I'm sure they wouldn't have made the mistake that became a monster that will not obey.

Your second paragraph hits the mark for me. The electoral college, in addition to historical dodo status often defeats the will of the voters as expressed by the "popular" vote. Our political party system has lost touch with the American people and goes where the money is through lobbies, "professional societies" and organized labor. These candidates don't care about us - only the blessing and financial support of their own ideological hierarchy. and Daddy Warbucks backers. Maybe thats why its almost impossible to get enthusiasm generated for elections. Each stooge for hire toes the mark of their party leadership and their political party platforms do not reflect what the average person needs or wants; let alone deserves Their credibility and any semblance of concern for consituents is already known and the choice is usually "Who is the least offensive". In place of the Norcross pledge, we should initiate the Medical Intern's Pledge - Primum No Nocerce (First above all, do no harm".

Thanks for bringing up the Australian model. Evidently, they have learned from our mistakes as well as their own. Even the Roman concept of "Republic" is preferable to the sorry bag of angry, rabid, rodents we now have infesting our Capitol building (better known as ther good ole boys club) standing in the halls with their hands out and bearing a sign stating "This legislator for hire - no cause too obscure or onorous- no amount of money too large."

If our Founding Fathers could have seen the dishonorable wreck of both houses of Congress, they would be disgusted.

Are you telling us something we don't know? (;->) Maybe the Aussies learned from our mistakes but not their own, before recent independence they were a British commonwealth. The national anthem was God Save The Queen and now is Advance Australia Fair which describes the national spirit to a T.

I don't know....maybe Rand Paul is right! Maybe the Republicans should just step aside and vote present. Obama and the Dems will own the whole thing and when it all comes tumbling down the people will have no one to blame but the Dems who voted for it. Let them own it! Keep piling on the debt! All Obama has to do is raise taxes and keep raising the debt ceiling. Its simple! We can continue spending our way into oblivion. No worries!

This is Important, but it will all work out Brothers and Sisters. I would also like to add, I know alot of people dont like Obama, but if Obama didnt do what he did in his last 4 years, My Dad for certain would not be back working like he is now, we almost lost our house in this crazy stupid mess that has been built over decades. Im sure more that just my Dad got back to work, but all in all theres definitly more to do and fix, but in my expierence if Obama didnt do what he did, My Dad wouldnt have a job or a house. Both parties have some truth in their plans but Confrontation and Conflict is their modus operandus rather than compromise. Revenue raises YES. Major spending cuts and cutting the bloated federal workforce back to reasonable and practical levels need to be done as well. Neither plan can succeed without the other component . We mere mortal American sheeple can see this so why can't they?

Raising tax rates on the rich will help and is sorely needed, they're pretty close to the lowest in history and BTW at one time were 90%. Just don't forget to close the loopholes, plug the leaks. Cutting spending will stifle the economy and slow recovery, any businessman knows full well the measure of wealth is not assets but cash flow. More in, more out, more flow, more wealth.
