but that small of a cut isn't going to get us
much closer to fiscal sanity.

We need to hire experienced business people to teach
the politicians of both sides how to handle money.

Politicians of any shade don't want the input from business, academic, of any thoughtful leaders. That might force them to actually do something positive for the nation and its people. While the average American is willing to do their share of what is right and fair, our Congressional loons still draw a nice living, and loads of perks, at our expense. Until they stop raising a quivering finger, and with a quaking voice, about abstract ideologies and protecting their sacred lobby moneybags, the descent into national anarchy will continue. Let's hope there will still be a nation when (or if) they come to their senses and protect the Constitution and people of our republic. , While many still call us a democracy, that lofty term died during the last Congressional session - and our legislators continue to pile dirt,manure, and organic fertilizer in the hole that was once a great nation.

I agree with the second part. The first part of that sentence needs some refinement, I'm afraid.

We are more a democracy now than we have ever been. It's big reason for our troubles. Democracy can be defined as two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. As long as people can vote themselves money, taken from the minority, it can't end well.

Democracy has been tried and failed. There is no true democracy in any country because it has never worked.

The US is not a democracy, has never been a democracy, nor will it ever be a democracy.

It is a Republic. A Constitutional Republic.

Early on, only landowners were allowed to vote.
