I'm gonna have to get me a job at the NSA one of these days. The radio scanners they get to play with must be friggin' AWESOME.

Default NSA reportedly collects less than 30 percent of US phone data

Quote:
The reports say the agency’s anti-terrorism, data-gathering project has been unable to adapt to the country’s rapid and large-scale transition from landlines to cell phones. And NSA data collection has declined significantly since the program started in 2006, when it collected data on nearly all U.S. calls, anonymous officials and sources told The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.

I'm not sure if I buy this. For one, all calls that go through a cell tower are routed through landlines. And I know your IMs are stored in a server and police can get access to them.

They need all that memory for their quantum computer so they can run exhaustive key searches on hard encrypted communications. Grover's algorithm effectively turns 128 bit AES encryption in to 56-bit DES. In other words, EASILY BREAKABLE, for them.

Maybe Blowfish 448 is better? I am currently encrypting all files and some data on my phone with AES 256.

A while ago I encrypted my computers. Now I just have about 7 hard drives to encrypt. I won't say which encryption I used though. Phones being encrypted is on thing, but encrypting your communications with encryption is another. There is a service that can do just that called Silent Circle.

Might want to make sure silent circle wasn't one of the many secure voice apps that were independently tested and found to be flawed. Many were susceptible to man in the middle attack.

Furthermore, relying 100% on encryption can be more dangerous than having none at all.

There's only one encryption technique I know of that is virtually 100% and its the old " one time pad".

This thread is another reason I support encrypting all communications with strong encryption: To thwart Big Brother.
