XTS5K when used with the GPS speaker mic and proper firmware will do it. I have one, nice feature.

Thanks, I know about the remote unti with GPS but was wondering if there are any radios that have the GPS build into the main body.

Not yet.

But the bigger question is; are there any LMR radios with built in GPS?

Does TETRA count as a LMR system? Then yes.

Reconsidering.

I think some OpenSky products have GPS, but I don't know if they do anything with the info in P25 mode. (Since most OpenSky field equipment will do P25).

MOTOTRBO portables (XPR6550)?
(I know, it's not P25)

I wish Garmin would design one using their Rino idea married with their COM190 (think it is) HT with GPS screen and P-25 capability.

Similar to this...

Why not?

(not on airband of course... but an FPP LMR type product geared toward S&R)

So it can become obsolete every year or two like GPS units?

Maybe so, but I said "I WISH THEY WOULD BUILD IT SO I COULD HAVE NEW TOY " but I'm not one of their stock holders.

It probably wouldn't sell very well and would be very limited I admit. But, I can thing of more than a few occassions it would have been handy as heck. I imagine that the major user disadvantage would be seeing the screen and securing the item at the same time.

I have flown using that air band model in the past. The diffrence there is that it was secured to the dash in a holder and not on your person of course.

Maybe a GPS receiver with display of couse that interfaces by way of blue tooth...? That way the radio could stay nestled in a pack protected and the user could grab the GPS and quickly visualize where the others are by way of position packets that are reported during PTT or pre-defined polling periods.

The possibilities are endless. I'm just a bit surprised that the idea hasn't progressed more with the technology that's out there.

Moto has that XTS5000 GPS mic and Thales has the cable that connects to the PC and GPS but the limitations there are obvious.

Sounds like Motorola ought to be all over the idea, then.

I don't doubt that the XTS10000 will include an OPTION for GPS mapping, and another OPTION for remote location of another unit on the system via its reported GPS location.
The unit's position would be reported via the system controller.

Of course, these will be value added ($$$) options.

I do expect radios like this to have integrated GPS.

I think it is obvious that most radios will have GPS at some point in the future.
More and more networks carry some form of data service, and the GPS chip-set is getting very cheap.

Mapping and display is a whole different animal. The processing power and display needed are still (and will be for a long time) significant cost adders to a product.
The software is also quite expensive due to the licensing model used for the map databases.

I figure these types of functions will be commonly integrated about as soon as PDA and data terminal functions also get integrated.
