APCO25 systems on a common frequency
I have read all the various threads and could not find any answer to this.
I receive two fire dep't systems on the same frequency 460.2625 (1 APCO25 in Wilton, CT, 1 conventional in Orient Point on Long Island).
Also, I receive a police dep't. APCO25 system from Wilton, CT on the same frequency, 460.4125, as Holbrook fire dep't. on Long Island).
Did I miss something or is there a DCS code for the APCO25 system so I don't pick up Long Island??
There is none listed on the RR database.
Thanx to anyone in advance;

John,
The P25 counterpart to DCS would be a NAC. Depending on the scanner, you may have the ability to set it to Search mode to discover what the NAC is that is being used by those agencies. PSR-500/PSR-600s will do this. I don't know about any other scanners though.
Otherwise, you'll need to know the NAC that is being used.

Thanx, Mike;
I am using 3 Uniden and 2 ICOM scanners which only support DCS (not NAC).
I can try searching for a DCS code or I will try my more directional 6 element yagi antenna.

I don't own a digital scanner so i don't know for sure if you can do this, but if you can set it to receive digital only, then it should ignore the analog stuff from LI.

Now why didn't I think of that Thank you for bringing that to John's attention. I suspect that shoudl be useful on his Unidens at least. I know the 396/996 both will work like that - set the conventional freq to P25 instead of auto and it will ignore anythign non-dig. good call!

You may be right, but that's how I remembered it. Easy way to test it.
- add a conventional freq (NWS would be good since its 24/7)
- set it to digital mode
- can you hear anything when you sit on the freq?
If this doesn't work, what happens then? For instance, in my area if I set up a conventional freq, 162.55 (NWS), and set it to Digital mode, what happens when I sit on the frequency? What will I hear if anything?

P25 Common Freq question
I have tried everything that was suggested and even with my directional antenna, I still pick up Long Island stations.
You cannot program an P25 freq. in a Trunking System (because it needs a format i.e. Motorola, EDACS, etc.)
You must program an P25 freq. as a Conventional System, which then only allows for a CTCSS or DCS code to discriminate one system from another.
I tried searching for a DCS code on the Connecticut stations and none was detected.
I guess I will have to save for a GRE radio.
This should conclude this thread except for any follow-up comments!!
Thanks to all;
JohnO

"Digital only" is not available on the 396. Only the 996 has that feature.
NAC decoding on conventional digital frequencies is available only on the GRE PSR-500 and PSR-600.
