Default 2005 Toyota Corolla LE and Ft-7800

I am considering installing a FT-7800 in a Toyota Corolla. Has anyone tried or actually done this?

I am not worried about the antenna so much as the radio itself. I don't have a lot of room.

Thanks,

Why not put the radio in the trunk and run an extension up front for the remote head and speaker? Very easy to do. I wouldn't go out and buy an extension kit if you don't have one - too easy to make!!

Yeah, definitely remote mount it. Put the drawer (radio body) wherever it is convenient and out of the way; mount the head wherever it is easy to access and use. The remote cable for the FT-7800 is a 6-conductor modular cable and can be home-brewed for only a few dollars.

If he just bought the 7800 new chances are he has the seperation kit also, everyone is selling them with a free seperation kit included.

Sounds like the best option to me, just not much room up front for the entire radio, i remote mounted the 7800 in both of our vehicles here. You can see the pics on my website, maybe it will give you some ideas.

In the van it went in the back, in the wife's car it went under the drivers seat.

Lightbulb FT-7800 Install

Here are pictures of my FT-7800 installed in my 2004 Corolla. I believe it's the same as the 2005.

How did you route the power into the trunk?

10 gauge wire fused at the battery and the radio, routed through one of the grommets in the firewall to a 10-amp relay behind the driver side kick panel, under the plastic trim back to behind the rear seats, up under the trim of the trunk to the radio mounted under the shelf. Watch out for pinch points so you don't short the wires. The relay is activated by an 18 gauge wire tapped and soldered from a wire from the 12-volt receptacle, which is is on the accessorey switch from the ignition.

Thank you for the response, I'll look at that route.
