Default 1998 Chevy Lumina

I have a 98 Chevy Lumina with the bench seat, right now I Currently have a Motorola CDM 1250 installed and within the week My VHF GE Orion will be here, not the problem is, there isn't really much room to mount both radios in my car. THe Orion will be mounted in the trunk since its a trunk mount model, which wont be so bad. Now I am wondering if any one had any plans that they had came up with to make their own custom console, of if any one had any input on how I can started to build my own, I have never built anything from scratch. So I'm looking for a little help.

how did you remote mount the CDM? Where is the CDM to be installed? Which radio will you use more?

I dont have a remote kit for the CDM, the CDM is mounted underneath the ash tray. I will be installing a GE Orion once I receive that. The Orion is remote mount, The CDM will more likely see more use then the Orion transmitting wise, sorry for the misunderstanding. I want to create my own console like some other people on this board have done, Just need some tips on doing so, like where to start, and where to take measurements.

Some guys, have used cardboard to mock up console. You could cut it and tape it together pretty easy. Than you lay the cardboard pieces out on the wood.

I didn't make a custom console (however, I am think on it in the future), but I got several strips of 1.5 inch wide aluminum from a friend who works in fabrication I took out the ash tray and used the mounting screws for the ash tray to mount brackets made from the aluminum strips for my Kenwood TK-7180 control head and Kenwood TM-V71A unit. I'll try to get some pictures of the actual mounting brackets and how I've got them set up.

Here is an old picture from my car. I've since redesigned how the brackets are used and the radios are closer together without soo much space in between them. IMG 0815 - setup
