Sticking remote head to dash
Anyone have any good ideas for stuff to stick a remote head to a dashboard? I've been using the standard double-sided tape that is sold for hanging paintings etc., but that seems to peel off whenever it's exposed to heat (as every car is.)
Thanks

Up here RadioShack sells a sort of plastic hook & loop variant that is so strong that I have actually had to pry a radio off the dashboard with a putty knife to get it off. It is the same stuff that is provided with tollway transponders that mount on the windshield.
At RS this stuff comes in 2 1/2 inch by 1 inch strips and can be cut to fit. I cut one pair of strips in half and used the pieces to mount a control head to a radio stack on a prior installation and it worked great.

Yep the heavy duty plastic hook and loop works great. You can find it at RS, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, ect. It costs a bit more than plain old Velcro but works ten times as well.

The only problem with using sticky anything to hold a radio/control head on the dash is IT WILL NOT hold the radio/head in an accident and they becomes a flying brick.

Not necessarily...
I have seen plenty of installs of control heads, cameras, radar guns, you name it, in squad cars and even some of them after they have been in a crash. The main thing is it needs to be done smart. Obviously a 5lb control head or radio mounted to the dash with a couple pieces of velcro could be an accident waiting to happen, but something lightweight like the control head on most ham gear these days, would break before it separated from the tape or velcro.

I've used velcro/hook & loop with adhesive on the back, to stick lots of things on dash boards over the years.
Depending on how many wires come out of the back of the remote head, you might not like the result. Also, if you change your mind and go to remove the velcro off the dash board, you are going to be left with a sticky patch of goo that can be pretty difficult to get rid of.
I always try to fit something below the dash if I can. Doing that makes it a bit less obvious to thieves.
