Default Direct wire home patrol

Any way to direct wire a home patrol or should I just wire in a new outlet for the scanner?

I guess it was a little late when I posted that. Looking to direct wire the home patrol into a vehicle and have it run right off the vehicle power, rather than having a cigarette plug.

Yes it's possible and easy if you're familiar with automotive wiring. Vehicle make/model?

2012 GMC Sierra. Planning on wiring it into a fuse block with a few other accessories, which will be direct from the battery.

Easy enough, you could also wire it so it turns on and off with the key, personal preference mostly.

Be careful, the Home Patrol requires 9V DC, not 12. You could use a voltage divider to step down the voltage to 9V.

Default I think Uniden could have done a better job here

I can not understand why they couldn't have designed or set it up as an option, that when the scanner looses power, such as off ignition source, it can shut down on it's own after a time period. Sure you can set it to run for a specified time, but that is a per use event. After it looses power, it will run off internal battery until they go dead. Obviously, it wasn't a deal breaker, but as always, we the end users will always wish it could do something else than what it was built as. UNLESS, there is a way and I'm just not finding it, if so, somebody please enlighten me. Of course in answer to your situation, I've always been a fan of these for low load items Bussmann BP/HHH ATM Add-A-Fuse : Amazon.com : Automotive and just wire on a cig plug under the dash to preserve your OEM plug system.

Have this all planned out and will use a 12V to 9V step down. My next question is does anyone know how much power a spectrum force GPS take, so I can use a step down for that. I can't find any information on the unit itself and I haven't been able to find out any specs on the unit itself, since it appears to have been discontinued.

Just by looking at it I would assume it's 5 volts like most "puck" style GPS modules.
