• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

how do I wire a M1225 shorting plug???
Which one? Accessory connector or mic connector?

On the accessory connector, if internal jumper JU501 has been removed, place a jumper between Pins 15 and 16 to enable the internal speaker. If JU501 has not been cut, there is no jumper required. You should be able to tell if JU501 has been cut because you'll have no internal speaker audio in Rx. If it has not been cut, you should have internal speaker.

if you mean the mic connector, please explain what you want to accomplish. Unlike earlier Radius and Maxtrac radios, I don't believe you need a jumper in the mic connector if you don't use a mic. That would enable hook and PL. Not needed in the M1225 IIRC. It's a programming option.

I want to jump out the mic so I can scan without a mic
It's been quite a while since I used the 1225 software, but I think that hook/scan is a software option and can be disabled by programming so that the jumper isn't needed. That was a requirement on the GM300's but not on newer radios.

But, if you have don't have access to programming, and it's set up for off hook disables scan, you need to jumper pin #3 (hook) to pin #4 (ground.) This is generally done with a RJ45 plug with a very small jumper inserted in the right spots and then crimped with a special crimping die. There are folks that make them up for sale and use a bit of clear caulk to seal up the backside of the plug.

If you don't have the plug or the die, there's two solutions, and they're both ready made. First, there are a bunch of sellers on Ebay offering GM300 shorting plugs (use those search words and they come right up) but the downside is that it's going to cost you $6 for a single plug. Or $5 for a pack of 5 and then you will have 4 of them that you won't need.

The second choice is to get one from me. When I needed one, they only sold them in packs of 5. So I've got 4 of them here that I have no use for at all. I can send you one for $3 if you want. Shoot me a PM and I'll send you my paypal address.

A quick follow-up post. I sent snewvine a shorting plug over the weekend. It arrived today and he just sent me a note advising that it worked just fine. If anyone else needs one, give me a shout. They'll work in the M1225, and most any older Radius, MaxTrac, or GM300 radio. In some cases the shorting plug is needed to enable scan and in others it enables PL. Some may need both. The solution is the same for both.
