• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

go with a split head radio, mount to the dash and the radio guts under your seat. mic hanger, use velco because its hard to get a mic on the hanger sometimes when mobile. Velco works great.

If the attached is roughly what your interior looks like, check into mounting the control head where I have the arrow pointing - you never want to mount it up in the way of your view/vision when driving and, more importantly, you do not want it up where airbags would hit it and make it a flying object in the event that they went off in an accident. I can't tell from the picture but if there is a space where I have the arrow, the head of a Kenwood TM-V71A or similar radio should fit there and the body of the radio could go under the seat (passenger or perhaps the rear seat).

That space in the pic has the 2 usb plugs and also were is sdi card goes for the in car nav. system
Thans for the idea

As small as the control head of some of these radios are I'm sure you can make it work...I wouldn't think the SD card would be accessed much and maybe it could be positioned as to allow decently easy access to the USB ports, as needed. Like I said, it is kind of hard to tell in the pic but that would be the spot I would aim for and see what you could make work.

I would not put the radio guts in the small space, radio head would work, but I had an opening, like this in the dash of a chrysler LHS, nice opening, held disk and junk. Problem was no ventilation, so the radio , after a few transmissions, Yaesu 8900, would say "heat" an would not transmit until the radio had cooled off. Lived in Henderson, NV at the time and the space in the dash would not work, so went to split head operation, radio under the seat. Better ventilation and never saw the word "heat" appear again.
