BCT15 Install question

I just replaced my BC-780XLT with the BCT15 and I am installing it in my car. The BC-780 used a 2 wire plug in connection .... the new BCT15 uses a 3 wire plug.

My question is this, can I take my old connection that is already wired into the vehicle and just plug it into the A/C plug on the scanner (which is the same size) to power my scanner .. or .. do I have to rewire the vehicle for the "new" style 3 wire plug. I also have no intention to use the 3rd wire for the dimmer function.

I haven't dealt with uiniden scanners, but if the wire colors are red (ignition), black (ground), and orange (hotwire), you should be able to just wire the red and black to a circuit that is hotwired to the battery.

But then again the extra wire may be for something else, like I said I've never had a uniden scanner.

All you need to hook up is the red & black wires. The orange wire goes to the dash lights... When you turn on the headlights, the scanner display will dim with the rest of your dash & radio lights.
