pro 106 STARS programming by hand
I just picked up a 106 for the $299 sale price a couple of days ago
a few of the local digital TRS's are coming in great ... so now I am after STARS ... I don't have the cable yet so I wanted to throw the Fork Mtn site in by hand ... any suggestions? I tried it as P25 auto and put in all the listed freqs and I'm using a Wildcard TGRP but it doesn't seem to be working very well I'm open to suggestions, I tried searching for help with the psr500 and stars but couldn't find much in the way of entering the system in manually ...
thanks in advance!

Hi Matt, welcome to a great scanner.
Set
1. STARS TSYS to P25 Auto
2. Enter control freqs in your range.
3. Map Talkgroup Objects to the TSYS and insure a scanlist is selected.
4. Run scanner to populate Trunking Tables. It will only take a few seconds. (if you have a CC in range)
5. If none are in range, you can either wait until you are in range or set the tables as follows:
Code:
Lo Ch Hi Ch Offset Base Freq Step
0 4095 0 851.006250 6.250
4096 8191 4096 762.006250 6.250
8192 12287 8192 136.000000 2.500
12288 16383 12288 146.000000 2.500
16384 20479 16384 156.000000 2.500
20480 24575 20480 166.000000 6.250
24576 28671 24576 136.000000 6.250
28672 32767 28672 161.593750 6.250
You can likely get by with just the three settings using step 2.500 KHz.

Are you able to hear a CC on Fork Mt?
To set tables.
Ring up the TSYS
PGM
EDIT
CURR
Down to the TSYS
SEL
FUNC Down
T Tables Right to Custom
SEL
SEL again on Table 01 Then edit the data in my previous ENT after Step then Save.
Down and SEL on Table 02 and repeat as above through all tables.

thanks Frank!
when I goto analyze its showing Sy: between 99% and 75%ish ... its been at 99% for a few minutes now ... (on 152.7125)
I went into all the custom tables and it seems they propogated with all the values you listed!!
here is what I have so far:
P25 Auto
I entered all the freqs for Fork Mtn
1 TGRP with Wildcard, scan list enabled and scanning
Custom Tables that matchs all of your listed values
and I'm getting 99% decode on 152.7125
also, the T in the upper left seems to flash wildly all the time (the SMeter is full to full-1 consistantly as well) ... and does it make a difference what the Multi-Site setting is set to?
Thanks again for all the help!
edit:
ok, now I'm not getting the T at all ... signal is good, the S is flashing wildly ... but no T ? ... if I go to analyze for like 30 sec it starts receiving T data, but only around 40-60% ... whats going on here?

Is scanner in same location?
I couldn't find it, but thought I saw a thread regarding Fork Mtn problems recently. However, I pick it up in the area of MP 35 on I-64 when traveling to/from my annal pilgrimage to Kansas.

yep, same place I allways am when not at work, sitting in my recliner
it is odd though, once I pick up voice transmissions it seems to normalize ... but before that, the T symbol is erratic and the decode % is very low ... oh well, what can you do

hey Frank, do you know if you have to enter all the listed freqs for a site, or can you just enter the control channel?
thanks!

Controls only for Mot or P25, all for ED and LTR and latter two require separate TSYS for each site.
BTW, we get 99% on Hampton tower with a 500 and 197 sitting here. Only get about 54% on 2096 using same antenna through an electron 1 in 4 out box. 4th out is to a 785D. Hampton tower is 9 air miles. We get about 94% on Chesapeake tower at 17 air miles. The 2096 gets about 46%. However, even sitting near any STARS tower, the 96/2096 will rarely get above 74-78%.

i see ... thanks for the info!
can I put in multiple ctrl channels for diff stars sites in the same TSYS? and set it to roam or whatever the setting is?
and on the same subject (sort of), can you use the same TGRPs for multiple TSYS as in the case of a multisite networked edacs site, such as the Central Planning District system? My BCT15 is great about having multiple sites that all used a collective pool of TGIDs for that system! ... any hints on this with the pro106?

Yes, that is how I have it set.

ED and LTR requires a new TSYS for each site and duplicating any common talkgroups mapped to each. If desired, these can use the same scanlist.
