Problem with Pro 95 and Programming Cable
I bought a programming cable from a member here for my Pro 95 and something is not working right. I had previously used a radio shack cable of my brothers and it had worked fine. This one looks like it might not be a radio shack one and I can't get it to work. My first question is when I have it plugged into the scanner in the pc\if port shouldn't it go to clone mode instead of scanning?

Scanner serial cables
I have had several different types of these scanner cables and they all do not work the same, even though they all worked to upload/download. I have seen cables which cause the scanner to go to the "clone mode" screen, and other cables which do not. Also consider that some cables are "stereo" and some are "mono" and some come with adapters (to make them stereo/mono).
Is this a serial (COM version) cable, or USB? If USB, does your computer recognize it and assign a COM port? Does it have a stereo or mono connector? Does the cable work for uploading and downloading?
Also; there are many cables out there that LOOK the same, but will not work with the PRO-95. Are you sure you have the correct model cable?

MAKE SURE! That you enter the CD with the drivers before you connect the cable. Windows will try to download its own drivers which will make the cable useless. You need to cancel the auto download and do browse instead. Then point it to the correct operating system with the drivers on the CD.

That only applies if he is using the USB version. We don't even know which version cable is being used.

It is a serial version with an USB adapter. It did attempt to load some type of driver. I do not have the driver. Also, I am not sure what it means to assign a com port.

Check in Device Manager for something similar to this RR Wiki link Connecting scanners via USB - The RadioReference Wiki

If you need me to I can send you the drivers. I just need to know what operating system you are on.

I am not sure. It looks different than the radio shack one of my brothers I was using. It is white and has a serial end that is plug into and adapter which allows it go into an USB port.

I will try that. The cable says GE02D 8360 on it.

That is the old GRE cable used for Scanner Data Manager program for the Pro-92/2067 scanners. It will also work with Pro's-93/2053/95/96/2096/2055 scanners.
If you have a 9 pin serial port, unplug the white GRE cable and use it without the USB. If you don't have a 9 pin serial then use the USB d/l and unzip file by bballjh and try load the drivers.

If a port is in Device Manager, it'll work.

So you are first using a USB to serial port converter, which has nothing to do with the scanner. Make sure you have the driver for that cable loaded. Check in Device Manager to see which COM port it was assigned.
Once you have the COM port, use the scanner cable "normally". Just make sure to enter the assigned port in the WINxx program you are using.
I had trouble using one of those USB to COM port converter cables, but I know others have had success.
Good luck

This is the driver you need for it to work. Then go to the website I told you about in the pm I sent you and download the manual. Attached is the driver. Let me know if you have any other questions or problems.

I thought I posted that I got it working but I must not have. I found the port in the device mgr and changed it and now it works.
