Default how to program a Pro-97

I'm trying to program Bakersfield, Ca on my Pro-97. It was given to me without a manual and I'm looking for police type frequencies.

I am VERY new to scanning so if my terms are wrong, please excuse. I am in Frazier Park and would like any "local" frequencies. I'm not sure how the frequencies work - e.g. city, county etc. If it's county I'm in Kern.

Any info you can give would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the RadioReference forums. We have a variety forums on here to choose from so it's important to post your question or request to the proper forum to get the best answer. At the top of the busy forums are Stickies which guide you where to post your question. I've moved your post from the General Scanning forum to this one as it's most applicable. In GenScan is a sticky (below) that helps with where to post. Please make note. Thanks.

Take a look here: Kern County, California (CA) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference for the frequencies in Kern County.

And here: http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Pro-97 for more information regarding the PRO-97. Note that many of us use WIN97 to actually program the scanner, although I also feel it is very important to learn how to program it manually.

second the recommend of Win97. I'll never have another scanner without computer programming.
