Repair Pro 97
Does anyone repair Pro-97's. I have 2 that need to be repaired.
One of them, if you hit a button, the sound is normal, but if you are scanning and it shops on a frequency and there is talking, there is no or very little sound.
On the other one, it will not stop on any frequency, even if i put it on a control channel of a local trunked system ( and no there is no rebranding in this area)
Let me know...

Try this....
On the 97 with low audio - Punch the WX button to go to weather mode. Can you hear the NOAA stations? Have you tried an external speaker yet? Or earphones? That might rule out the speaker itself. Try jacking and unjacking the speaker a couple of times in case you have pocket lint or something in the headphone contacts. Trust me, that does happen.
Have you by chance programmed in a digital audio channel? If so, the digital audio channel will stop the scan but there will not be any audio. That's one of the reasons why the police are going digital, so crooks cannot listen. Also, sometimes, it is more reliable than analog. Plus, the manufacturers like digital and are no longer pushing the analog. It is cheaper.
On the nonstop 97 - try turning the squelch all the way open so you hear static, that would be full counter-clockwise. Will it stop on a channel then?
If the answers are "No", you better plan on trying to find a replacement scanner. It might cost more to repair than to replace. Keep asking around, maybe someone else has a better idea.

If you purchased the scanners from Radio Shack and bought the replacement plan, get it replaced. They won't fix it because it may be a prohibitively high cost. Besides, that model is no longer produced. I had sensitivity loss with mine and replaced it without looking back. The Pro-164 is the newer version of the same radio, mine works excellently.

This radio has a 1 year warranty. If you purchased since June 2008, it is still covered and will be repaired for FREE.
If the radio is not in warranty, Radio Shack will charge $20 to check the radio out and give an est of repairs.

On the low audio scanner - I tried an exteral powered speaker and still low, extremely low audio. If I put my ear up to the scanner, I can hear the NOAA Weather Channel.
On the one that is not picking up any channels, I have checked the BNC connector and everything looks fine. I checked the Weather channel since there is a transmitter really close and no luck. It fell about 5 ft onto the floor and that is when it quit working.
I think I will call Radio Shack in the morning to see if they still repair this scanner.
THANK for all the help.

As I said in my post on 5/30, yes, Radio Shack can still repair the scanner.
On the radio with low volume, there has been a problem with the volume control and it is repairable.
On the one that dropped 5 feet, if the circuit board is not cracked, it should be repairable also.

KC5EIB,
Thanks for the information. The circuit board does not appear to be cracked.. I was not to call them on Wednesday as when I got about to calling them, they were closed. Did you have to contact a local store or did you call the 800 #?

Take the radio(s) by your local store. They will send them to the repair center for you.
