There are some features of both the PRO164 and the BC346XT (the newer one)(not on RS website but 214.99 at ScannerMaster.com) that are nice to have, but this being the RS forum, I'd wait until the PRO164 goes on sale for 149.99 (or if your lucky it will go down to 129.99 like I got it for) and that will save you a couple of bucks, and you'll have a fine scanner. The PSR300 is really the same as the PRO164, but, I've never seen it on sale. If you ever head over the hill to the Puget Sound area the trunking would be nice to have, even down to the Tri-Cities as Benton Co is on a trunk system as well. As for military air, you do have an air base in Moses Lake that does a lot of parachute drops at the training area NorthEast of Yak. Don't know if you'd hear much, but I've also seen fighter jets flying just a couple hundred feet above the Columbia near Vantage. Anyway, thats my input. Hope it helps.

I don't think I'd get much traffic from the military air. The only time I've ever heard of any military flights close was last year when a fighter jet made a screaming low altitude flight over Wenatchee and freaked out half the town. lol
Have you ever been up near Snoqualmie Pass and seen jets flying over the lake alongside the highway? They fly low over Lake Kachess too, we were up there camping once and they'd come screaming in just a few hundred feet over the lake. Very exciting! I was told that they go up there to practice flying low under the radar.
The Radio Shack guy told me this morning that he believes we won't ever go to trunking. That there are only about 10 frequencies in use here at any time and we just don't need to. And that it certainly isn't in any budget in the foreseeable future.
I'm thinking I might just pick up that Uniden BC95 now, and see what Radio Shack has for sales on Black Friday this year.
I really appreciate the input from all of you!!!!

No, not up there, but I have had them "buzz" me on the Vantage bridge and down on I-84 near the Boardman Bombing Range. And down by Boardman I've seen them about flying 50' above the Columbia until you can't see them anymore. Cool stuff!
You might look at the PRO137, its made by Uniden, looks like its 30.00 cheaper at RS and you would have "Text Tags" so you would see Wenatchee PD or County Sheriff or whatever, instead of just the frequency. Kind of a nice feature that the 95 doesn't have. And if you are going to use it in you vehicles a lot, get a power cord for the car or rechargable batteries as they seem to use up batteries quickly, more so if you have the backlight on at night.

Pro 162 is very nice
If you're not necessarily looking for brand new, you may want to look at a Pro 162.
It's got just about everything you'd want--1000 channels, 10 banks, triple trunking, SAME, rebandable, alpha tags. CTSS codes, easy to manually program--and it's a Uniden design. Performancewise, I'd put it ahead of my GRE PSR 500 in VHF and air band reception, and it has better overload protection, too. And it's programmable with Butel software. You can easily find used. mint condition models for under $100 on Ebay.

I think she was trying to stay away from spending that much, and if you knew the area, she really doesn't need that much of a scanner. Unless she takes a trip over to the Puget Sound area were the big cities are she's in an area that is all small towns. In the 3-4 counties around that area you could enter every PD, SO and FD freq. and only use maybe 150-200 channels, tops. Chelan, Kittitas, Douglas, and Grant counties in Washington state, maybe Yakima too.

I had settled on the Uniden BC95 and then talked myself into the Pro 164. I like the idea that if something goes wrong, I can drive 5 minutes to the store and (hopefully) get it taken care of. Got over being pissy about the lack of an included AC cord. Well, until I found out how much it costs. lol
Decided that alpha tags is a REALLY good idea. The clincher was when my inner tinfoil hat doomer convinced me that milair might be a good feature to have.....some day.
Who knows, I might even end up back in the Puget Sound area, stranger things have happened.

I got the Pro164 today and went right down to RS and they cloned it off their demo Pro163. Their in house scanner expert/wildland firefighter programmed the 163 with all the goodies from the Radio Reference database, plus some. I have all of Chelan and Douglas counties, plus I am picking up some Grant county stuff too, so the range seems good. I am really liking the alpha tags!
So far I am happy!

Good job. Now start playing around with some of the empty banks(if you have any) and the database on this website and learn how to program and use the different features yourself, and in no time you'll be as messed up in the head, obsessed, and confused like the rest of us.LOL. And lastly, enjoy!

Welcome aboard,
You will just love the 164, I know I do along with my pro-36,39,51,95,96,97,2051,163 and my GRE-500 plus more can you say addicted , the 164 is a great scanner if you get the USB cable for it you can program it right from your computer, its faster and a great way to keep a backup of whats in the scanner.

Right now, it is only using banks 0-3, so I have plenty left to play with. RS guy has it all organized too, Douglas County on one bank, Chelan County on another, WSP on another. My 433 was all mixed up all over the place.
Yes. Learning how to do it for myself. I grabbed a link from here that leads to an 'easier to read' manual. Thank goodness. ;-)
