Default Need help manually entering into Pro 106

I just got a new 106 and want to learn how to manually enter data into it. Specifically, I'd like to enter data from a Bell Fleetnet system here in Ontario.
Is there anyone who could give me a kick start on how to go about doing this using data from the tables? I've read the manual, easy to read manuals and have looked on here for help but really could use a little more assistance.
I will buy the Win500 program, but would really like to learn the sequence for manually entering data for this Bell Fleetnet system.
I know how to enter data, text, etc. but I'm still a little confused about IDs, talkgroups and when to do what in the programming steps.
Thanks....

From our wiki...(anything in blue is a link)

Programming Your Pro-106/Pro 197/GRE PSR-500/GRE-600 For Fleetnet - The RadioReference Wiki

The folks in the Eastern Canada forum can get you up and running in no time, I'm sure, if you still have problems

Follow the steps in Programming Shortcut in the RR Wiki, courtesy of fmon. I think you will find it easy to follow.

Once you get WIN500, you will find an illustrated "tutorial" at UtahRadio.org to help in using the program.

Mike and qlajlu:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU!
Ten minutes after I picked up your posts, I had my first system entered and was receiving signals loud and clear...........
I'm going to keep on entering data here, but will get the Win500 program as well.
You guys saved me so much headache!

You know, the very best you can do is learn how to do it manually, because you may go out on the road and might wish to program something on the fly. I'm happy to see that you are one of those people who are actually learning by doing. That has always been my motto, learning by doing. You'll never know when you'll have to do it and not have a computer handy. Once you learn and get the software, the first step is to save the file and then you'll be able to modify it by adding what you want and deleting what you don't want. Congratulations on your new found fun, keep at it.

N1BHH, thanks for the words of encouragement.
You know, like most things, if you achieve a little success it gives you confidence to carry on and learn more.
I wanted to learn to do it manually for the exact reason you explained. I'm using a wildcard and am happy for the time with it like this. I can use the rr tables and manually enter more when I go somewhere else.

You'll enjoy your 106, I know I do ! One thing you may quickly notice about Fleetnet is the audio difference between the digital (OPP) and analog (EMS) talkgroups. The analog is much lower when listening, this IS normal and not a defect of the radio. I too programed manually at first, including alot of alpha tagging. I have sinced purchased Win500 and is great for 'cleaning' things up. Have fun !!!

Believe it or not, I'm having more problem beginning to program by the computer than I did programming manually! (but that's just me)
I'm just at the stage where I'm downloading the cd driver for the cable, picking the usb port on the computer and getting the computer to recognize the scanner.
I've downloaded the driver to the computer, have plugged the cable in and that's as far as I've had success! Should the computer and the scanner eventually "talk" to each other if the installation is successful?
