Default Radio Shack Friends and Family

I hope this news is not correct. I was talking with the manager at my local Radio Shack corporate store. He told me that there is no plans for any Friends and Family coupons through the end of the year. There is, supposedly, going to be some $ discount coupons based on the total amount of purchase. I asked him if it was possible to get a pro 197 close to the $279 I paid for the pro 106 last year and he said I would be looking at the mid 300's.

I hope it's not true. I was wondering why the coupon hasn't hit the streets yet... I was beginning to think we aren't Friends anymore.

If they don't come through this year, maybe I'll just buy the GRE model at HRO for $449. Lack of an F&F event will probably boost the resale value of my Pro-96

Wow, if that is true. I think I'll just kick in the extra coin and go for a bcd396xt or a GRE. I think I'll hold out a bit longer. See what develops in the next coming of weeks.

I wouldn't count on the store employees, or manager to really know what's going on. Not to any fault of theirs. It seems corporate doesn't keep them informed about much of anything these days.

Last year none of the numerous local store's staff had any idea about coupons or sales until a few days of actually happening.

Situation in my area stores is the same. Staff has not been aware of past F&F events in advance. I sure hope Radio Shack is doing another F&F again in the next month - have been waiting patiently to purchase another PRO-197 at a good price so will continue to hold out to see what develops.

If they do, I buy a PRO-106. If not, I buy a Uniden.

Really hope they do though. Was pissed I missed out on it last year. Had no job and no disposable income at the time.

Last year I grabbed two Pro-197 during the sale. They where out of Pro-106's, so I got two 197's. I orignally wanted one each. This year I am looking for a 106. Was looking for two, but I just got a 996T at a very good price. So, I am going to wait on my next purchase til around Christmas time. If still no F&F sale or sale price like last year.....I'm going with a Uniden 'XT scanner or a GRE.

Yeah, at this point it seems like the best we'll see is a repeat of the $399 price. Anyone who already has a scanner that meets their needs can wait for the time being, but folks who really need a radio are probably getting antsy by now.

I left my part time job at RS back in June, when I finally got a real paying part time job. I sincerely doubt RS will ever do the friends and family again. They are HEMHORRAGING money, and their idea of stopping the bleeding is to cut down any and all perks for customers and employees alike.

But one thing they always WILL do is have sales, and we just don't see that with the GRE or Uniden products. I'd love to score a GRE 500 on sale for 399, but it just ain't gonna happen, at least not until they release its predecessor. But we'll probably see a Pro-106 at 399 before the year is through.

See the second paragraph of this post:

New RS Scanner: 20-405

Starting to get my hopes up now... as the heat from the smoldering credit card begins to make itself felt through my wallet.

If this event happens to align itself again with a $399 sale on the PRO-106/PRO-197 as it did last year, let the fun begin!

I hear ya' Bill. My fingers are crossed for the same reason. Got a Pro-106 last year during the big combo sale and have my sights set on a Pro-197 if they do it again :-)
