Anyone know the easiest way to replace the orange backlight behind the LCD on Radio Shack PRO 2039 & 2050. I came across these models with burnt out backlights, as so they are impossible to see at night. I know how to open them up and access the light, but I am curious to the specs? Does RS still stock the bulbs, or can I use something else. Thanks!

Radio Shack RSU still carries the bulbs/LED. I ordered a few a couple months back. All you have to do is slide the old one out, slip the new one in the slot, and resolder the two wires. Takes only a few minutes to do. IIRC, they run about $3.50-$5.00 each (?).

Tell the manager to look up the part under RSU parts. I can't remember the number off hand.

Here is the OEM
P001 10791416 LAMP,PILOT 8V 0.2A L0200 as listed for the PRO2030

They are incandescent bulbs. These will work, although not exact and cheaper than the OEM
12V/25mA Miniature Lamps - RadioShack.com

They are 12v. The radio came with 8v bulbs in there so these will be just a bit dimmer, but should last.
You could try the 6v version for brightness, but much shorter life.
The clear bulb is in an orange boot.

Someone who ia an ace in the formula department might suggest the proper resister in order to replace this bulb with an LED.
