Was bored today and my 106 was in need of a common BNC connector repair, seems the BNCs center pin lug broke from the antenna wire..so after i swapped the wire out for shielded flexible cable i decided to tap the disc output-TestPoint4...

the first is of the tap itself,,

Hmm...this could go into the wiki - one vital piece of information is missing, though. Where precisely is TestPoint4?

I like the idea of putting the cap and resistor on a little breadboard, but it had to have been a tight fit to find the right spot to put that on top of something (?) that wouldn't short it out.

Interesting...73 Mike

Thumbs up Nice Job!

Very well done!
Would love to see some pictures of the audio connector already installed on the scanner. By the way, I have always used a 10K resistor in my scanners. I see you used a 47K resistor. Any reason for that? Just curious....

1st,Thanks!
No specific reason for hte 47,got the recipie from a member here and its worked well,,
Ive used 100k,and have been thinking about going down to a 10 to maybe get a lil louder audio
to flow through..
ill snap some more pics and post em soon

TP4,
the location of TP4 is in another wiki, its exactly the same as the PSR500,,matter o fact the service manual
for the 106 has an error for the LOGIC board page,it shows the PSR500 LED and keypad layout not the 106s..

heres a blueprint of the area you queried..

Outstanding. Should be a cinch to copy these images into the wiki - I'll put a little explanatory text around it, and away we go. Should be helpful when this question comes up again - and no doubt, it will

very Cool,,into the rr archives!

to make a coupel side notes,

I hot glue gunned the wiring on the taps PCB to strengthen the connection
and making it more workable.

I also double looped the output wire through a common radio-speaker magnet
to help reduce-clean up and RF interference(may have been unnecessary-couldnt hurt)
,shrink tubing it to keep from contacting anything on the PCB.

everything else is as pictured and straight forward, total process, with frequent
stops about 60 minutes.

thanks for the pos feedbacks,,and thanks to a rainy day time to do it!

All done. Fourth, if you would be so kind as to add some text as you deem appropriate, that would be helpful

It would also be nice to have a picture of the jack from the outside of the scanner once re-assembled to complete the visual package. Once again, very nice work.

Hi,
Looking at the photo of the circuit board that resistor is a 47 ohm resistor, not a 47k

Nice job!

Mods: Can we get this thread stickied, since it is sort of a reference? I might be helpful to the folks who come along and want to know how to do this!!! (If not it's okay)

Outstanding! I am trying to do the same thing. Can anyone or is there a YOUTUBE video of this procedure? It's been a nightmare for me chasing this. Can you explain-what if any kind of wire, or solder it to the board with prvided wire(s)? Thx-Ron-----3 106's to do

I am seeing all kinds of layouts, but the question now is, I took the back off. There is a wire holding front to back. Do I remove the plate from the front part? I got up the gumption to open her up. As is-2 parts connected by 2 wires. I see all kinds of letters and numbers--none that have tp..thx

It depends on the program you are using to decode the signal (more than likely DSD). Information is in the link provided:
Digital Speech Decoder (software package) - The RadioReference Wiki

And there's a section of the forums dedicated to software decoding:
Digital Voice Decoding Software - The RadioReference.com Forums
