Ok, it has been a while since I have used a pro97, so I'll do my best to just help you get started. First, on that page you need to pick a site that is close to you. In a bank, program in the red and blue frequencies (only for the site close to you) and put them as Motorola Type 2. Hit scan and it should work fine. Just a note, it looks like quite a few talkgroups are digital and/or encrypted on that system. The pro97 will not be able to monitor those talkgroups.

Ok. I'm going to do me best trying to explain it. First go to the bank that you want the system in and program the control channels in(red & blue freqs.) Now on each one of the frequencies that are control channels you have to set them as MOT. To do this press mode until they said MOT. Now press function then trunk and program the talkgroups/text tags in. Then you need to turn the id sub banks on and off and set the bank to closed. Taht is in the manual but I forget how to do that.

Best advice is to get demo of WIN97 at www.starrsoft.com From there you can see where everything goes in each bank. Too many things to remember when setting up a trunking bank. Also the software will save your wife from having to visit you at the mental hospital. Good Luck, Larry

Yes I will second the software but it is nice to know how to get the scanner programmed by hand. I forgot to add that you also have to set the bank to MOT. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that it goes back to your regualr freq.

You might not be close enough to the site to get a hit from the control channel for it to start trunking.

I have found that SCHP is not that easy to monitor.
Even just living across the state line in South Meck.

You have to remember that coverage areas on 800mhz can be pretty sharp.
There's no fading in and out , when it drops, it drops.

Living in Charlotte I can Mooresville 800mhz, but cannot get Cabarrus Co.
And the situation is reversed when I'm in Concord.

Hit manual and see if you get noise on the one of the control channels.

Thumbs up pro 97 help

i realize the pro 97 instruction manual isnt very good. I will try to help the best i can from what i know about this scanner. Turn on the scanner. wait until it shows "scanning". press program and then press "T" for trunk . after that prss mode until you find the correct system eg. mot, edacs or LTR. it sounds like you need moto type 2 which is waht my county is ( montgomery pa) . now type in all of your talk groups. what i did was kept east and west different banks so i could scan them seperatly. do what you want with the talk groups depending on how your county is set up. next, go to the corresponding bank in conventional mode and type in all of the 800 mhz freqs in the same bank that the talk groups are in. as you program each frequency make sure you push mode to change each cahnnel to "mo" motorola. once you complete this when you press scan you can see the control freq and the talk group when a signal comes through. those trunked system are tricky with reception especialy with those good old radio shack antennas. you may have to be with in 10 miles of a tower to pick up anything. hope this helps good luck.

Could it be that your bank with the Palmetto system is not selected for scanning? To check, while scanning the bank number should be listed on the top line of display. If it is not then press the number to toggle it on.
