Talking Got my PRO-106!!!!!

I got an awesome deal today. I was looking on Craigslist this past Sunday and noticed that someone had a PRO-106 for $175.00. I was blown away. I contacted the guy on Monday while I was traveling and told him that I was very interested, but I wouldn't be able to look at it until I got back today. He said that he would hold it. After a lot of confusion and a lot of back and forth with emails and phone calls the deal was done. It came with the original box, both battery holders, a 800 Mhz antenna and a wall charger. The unit was in pristine condition. I think I did pretty good. I am very thankful that the guy waited until I got back from my trip. Now for the fun part. Programming it.

that's almost unrealistically cheap. did he say why he was selling it? was it a believable reason? my first thought when i saw your post was that the radio was stolen and the guy was unloading it.

It's definately not stolen. The guy was an older (seasoned) gentlemen. He and his wife had come into some hard times and needed to get rid of some stuff. He actually had it less than a year. I went to his home and its in a very nice area close to the Ross Barnet Reservoir here in Mississippi. He had recently had a tripple bypass and they had to pretty much sell everything they had, including an extra car, to pay the $300K bill. I actually gave him more for it than he asked.

I will be getting win500. I am very new to this, but I've already aquired several units in a very short amount of time. Unfortunately I had not visited this site to find out about digital and which scanners will do what. So I ended up with some units that I don't need as you can probably see from my signature.

Once again I am still learning and will always listen to good advice when it's given.

ka3jjz,

Thanks. I'm sure that will be very helpful. I downloaded the Easier to Read Manual and I will be going through it too. Every little bit helps.

It sounds like you lucked out, cool.

Here is a helpful guide for Win500: WIN500 - UtahRadio

Here is an easier to read guide for your radio:

I would also check out ARC 500 by Butel. I found it to be a superior program compared to WIN 500

What does ARC do that WIN doesn't ? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Default Win500 Versus ARC 500

In my opinion, Win500 is much easier to navigate. I could never understand or successfully master ACR 500; therefore, I gave it to a friend. I hated it.

With Win500, you can see the Trunking System & associated TG's in one visual field. If you look at the Utah example, you will see what I'm talking about.

In my opinion:

Advantage of Win500: easier to program
I cannot think of a disadvantage.

Advantage of ARC 500 I don't really know
Disadvantage: difficulty in programming. I don't know for sure, but the advanced software might be more expensive; however, as I stated, I am certainly not familiar with ARC 500.

A singular difference of the "big three" software packages is the capability to import and export CSV files. Perhaps this note in Jottings will help clarify. HTH.

I have the basic ARC 500 program. It was just easier and did what I wanted it to do. I tried WIN and didn't like it. You tried ARC and didn't like it. Everyone likes what works best for them. I just like offering options since there is more than one software program

Congrats on your pro-106 ... but be nice and gentle when connecting antennas to that BNC connector!
