Question More RS Pro-106 Trunk Programming questions.

O.K. So, my area has three Trunk systems that I want to monitor. Jacksonville;Onslow County, Marine Corps Base and VIPER. See bottom of the page on the linked URL;

Onslow County, North Carolina (NC) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Can I list the CCs of each into one trunk system or do I have to have three trunk systems? If I have three, how does that work? Do I turn one off and the other on? Do they work simultaneous?
I have the Talk groups for each programmed for separate scan lists.

I'm still a little confused with the terms Trunk Group and Trunk Systems.

Default Pro 106 programming

If you have three systems, say in lists 1, 2, and 3, they can all be on or in any combination of active or off. If you put them all in one, then you can use the lockout to shut off talkgroups, but not each system individually. I find it a little easier to keep track of systems on my Pro 106 than on my 396XT, and the 106 shows the name of the system at the bottom of the screen as you turn it on or off. By using the V-Scan folders, you can have many systems available. Just be sure that your main system is saved in the 00 folder so you can recall it after using other V-Scan folders.

You should program each system separately and will work simultaneously. It will basically take turns checking each system for radio traffic and you can chose to put them in different scanlists to turn them off when you want or toss them all into the same scanlist.

In theory, you could put them into one into system (only if they are all one type such as a Motorola Type II SmartZone, you cannot mix trunked systems like Motorola + P25) and run on multi-site, but it's not recommended and you have a large potential of hearing stuff you aren't looking for. For example, if I program Talkgroup 1, it will search for Talkgroup 1 in all 3 trunked system as they are in no way interconnected or related. So say TG1 is for Police on one system, it will search the other systems and if TG1 represents 'Facility Maintenance' on the second system and 'Building Security' on the third system, you would hear it all since they are all TG1.

I'm not sure if anyone has sent you to the wiki, but here's a pretty good explanation of what trunking is.
Trunking Basics - The RadioReference Wiki
Trunked Radio Systems - The RadioReference Wiki

It's better to think of a systems isolated from one other while talkgroups are virtual radio channels that reside within the system and do not apply anywhere else.

I added an additional Trunk System with the CCs for Camp Lejeune. Dropped the VIPER all together. It all works as you stated.
IE... scan list for local PD using scan list 1 and Camp Lejeune on scan list 5.

My trunk "system" for Onslow County, NC is working great.
I've also been scanning Trunk for Camp lejuene for several days now and zero hits!

Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Trunking System, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina - Scanner Frequencies

I am using ARC500, I programmed just the CC's, have the talk groups tied to the Trunk system and have the list enabled. I even tried using the custom frequency table listed, thinking that would help. The freqs are in the 400 range, so the system type MOT800/900 doesn't apply. Right? If not then what option should I select? I've tried each without success.

- MOT VHF/UHF
- P25 Manual
- P25 Auto

I am using a Diamond RH77CA antenna. Should I use the OEM ant. for this system? Looking back at the product description,

http://www.universal-radio.com/catal...ntht/2368.html

the ant. may be my problem. Right? It lists the 450 band whereas Camp Lejeune is 406, 407, 408 *(DANG)* If it's not hers, it got put away SOMEWHERE! As soon as I find my OEM ant. I will test that theory.

Comments?

Thanks once again.

Did you add a wildcard to that trunk system? If you do, you might get some traffic that way.

Make sure you have the "Custom System Tables" programmed.
They are in the system page.
refer to your manual for Custom Tables!

Yes, sorry, forgot to mention that. I added a wild card in the talkgroup and did the custom table but probably screwed it up. I have NO experience in that. Where it says spacing on the webpage, there is no spacing field/menu on the scanner. I did put in 50.0 in "Step" what I thought might be the "spacing" What do I put in Hi Chan, Lo Chan?

"System ID list" What is that, where does it go, how does that apply? Sorry, don't know how else to ask.

I did find my EOM ant, still nothing, so that leads me back to programing errors. System type: 800/900 , MOT VHF/UHF, P25 auto or manual?

Program the following:
Base: 406.35
Spacing (Step): 50
offset: 380
High Channel: I don't know for sure (Try 409.75)
Low Channel: I don't know for sure (Try 406.15)

System Type: MOT VHF/UHF

Sorry,
Thats all I know to do. Posting in the NC forum would work better than the RS forum!
Post with something like, "Attn Onslow County Area Listeners, Need help with Camp Lejune Scanning." Then use the Exclamatory Thread Marker!
Ask for someone to send you a ARC500 File of Camp Lejune, that they use! Then just copy what they have! You don't have to have them send you something, you can just have them post the info! if that works better!
