Default Just bought a pro-164, signal stalker question!

Hi, I just bought a pro-164 today at the shack. $169.99 brand new! Couldn't pass it up for that price. I have a pro-95 so I am pretty familiar with programming it with software. I have a question though about the signal stalker, when I press & hold the button it is searching the bands but not finding much at all, EX: like the police freq's I have programmed. Is that because I have to be close to the transmitter like a freq counter? If that is the case then ok. If it does stop on an active freq and I want it, how do I load it into memory?

Also, When I first tried the weather channel it sounded terrible. My pro-95 was crystal clear compared to the Pr0-164. I checked the firmware that was installed and it was 1.09. I upgraded it to the 1.10 and that fixed the problem! Any other features of the new firmware?

Thanks for any advice.

Rick

Signal stalker operates similarly to a frequency counter I believe. It is basically for powerful signals nearby and can be compared to Uniden's Close Call if you know anything about it. Examples would be a portable radio down the street or something similar or a base a few hundred feet away. If you are searching for frequencies, you might want to consider using the Search function and check out SR3 (Public Safety).

As for weather, can't provide much feedback as I don't have experience with the Pro-164. I did a quick check of the NWS page and it looks like there are quite a few different weather stations covering the area you live in. You may want to try hitting WX a second or third time to see if it improves at all.

If you haven't seen the Easier to Read manual, try checking it out. It's usually pretty thorough and will most likely teach you a thing or two about your new scanner.

Read page 26.
"... detect, monitor and save frequencies of NEARBY or high-power transmissions. ..."

An external antenna might even help you a little. It just depends on the terrain where you live. An external antenna will help exponentially over the antenna that comes stock with the scanner. Figured it might help.
