Pro-95 /97 serial programming cable

I have two radio shack serial programming and I cant seem to get them to work, my other usb cable will program the scanners no problem but my straight serial cables wont see the scanners. I do have the com port correct, any thing else i need to check ? thanks

proper cable is getting hard to find. it is a RadioShack 20-289 cable it is a gray cable, marked with the GRE part number GE02D-836 Its not to hard to make one here is how
