I started out just like you. I had no knowledge, patience, or anything. I taught my self the most part. My point is-6 years later-I still no nadda. I bought a pro 197-thought it was a pro 106.. It is, different name. 2 years on that 1. Gotta love technology. Now, I can program the 106-197-96-83-bcd396xt, and the most sensitive analog scanner I ever seen---bct15x. Best of luck.. Remember--the tune button does alot..And you were smart enough to buy the best!

I think it's more like a learning curve....once you get familiar with what you are doing it becomes easier! If somebody told me 2 years ago I would be able to manually program a ham radio handy talkie by hand I would have said no way!! Now I'm getting fast at it!!! With the software it's almost automatic!!!!

I sometimes hit a band search it's amazing what will pop up or hear!! When I have some real time I want to try and search the military bands but I'm not near any bases or forts.
