Default Opening Case On PRO-106

The volume control on my new/used 106 is noisy. I wanted to get some Deoxit on it. I'm not sure about the best way to get access to it. I tried to loosen the screws on the case but they wouldn't budge. I didn't want to go further until I got some advice here.

Thanks guys!

I dont know what youre doing inside, but when the screws come out-there will be 3 pieces. The front-the-volume goes with the front, but sepparates from front and back. When you open it-theres the speaker wire RIGHT there connecting ( physically ) front and back..The comp.board sepparates from the back. NOT the front.. I use my thumb 's on sideEASY, dont need damag. Best of luck! Make sure the screws are all the way ouy..Long..

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-T459/T459UVIA1 NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

My volume control is also scratchy. My understanding is that ALL 106's are like that. May not be worth it to tinker unless it's really that annoying to you.

You said your pro-106 is new/used? If it's still in warranty then I would wait, or send it in to be repaired unless you have the knowledge to make the repair.

Default Radio Shack pro 106

I don't seem to have a problem with the volume but I am having trouble programming the scanner. And does anyone have the Sarasota FL. 10 codes and signals or a web site I can go to for this?

I purchased a RS106 in July-2012, was made 06A12, it does not make the scratchy volume noise my GRE500 and RS197's make...Seems like different pot.....

Unhappy re control

unless you work on radios and have the tools . the rf board under the antenna has a metal cover solder on the board with lots of solder on each side . It has to be removed because the antenna nut the holds the top on is under it. I change mine and it took me all day .May not do it again

Default Pro 106 scratchy volume

I had that problem until last week. After removing the case back, I carefully sprayed the volume control with electronic cleaner and also sprayed between the knobs. After a few gentle full cycle turns back and forth (no batteries or power), scratchy sound was gone when I powered up. I have used this type of spray many times in over 50 years of electronic tinkering with good results and no problems.

I also want to try some spray too as the two knobs bind up. I mostly hope for some info on getting the back half off to hopefully get to the DC / AC plug. The radio is constantly loosing power. It seems as thou the connection needs a little correction. I cleaned and tried to bend the prong, but couldn't get it 100%. Of course the front came apart, but that didn't help.

I put some DeOxit on the pot of my 106 which started the rustling sounds about a week after I got it. It was gone afterwards, but in a couple of weeks was back, just like before. A lot of work for a very minor problem. Unless the pots in my 106 and PSR-500 actually fail, let them scratch away.
